How is diamond embroidery made? Diamond embroidery - what it is, how to lay it out and useful tips

The art of assembling mosaic paintings came to us from the ancient world. Then the paintings were assembled from ceramic elements, glass, and mirrors. Today, the creation of diamond mosaics is considered. Canvases with an adhesive base are made from durable, moisture-resistant materials, and the rhinestones themselves are made of resin. The finished products are absolutely not afraid of moisture, do not fade in the sun, have bright colors and a beautiful shine. It is not difficult to assemble such a picture, although it will require a lot of time and patience.

Diamond mosaic: what is included in the kits

Various diamond mosaic sets are offered by online stores. The set contains:

Any size of paintings is available, from small ones measuring 20x20 cm to large ones 60x12o cm. You can also choose modular products consisting of several paintings. I present a master class on mosaics measuring 50x50 cm.

What is the difference between diamond mosaic and Aliexpress?

In addition to Russian stores, you can buy such sets on the well-known Aliexpress website.
The cost of Chinese sets is significantly lower, but the quality is the same. In addition, for display, Chinese sets offer tweezers and a special stick.
Working with a stick is faster.

When choosing a set, you should consider:

How to assemble a diamond mosaic

Before starting work, you need to check the availability of all the necessary colors of rhinestones. A legend is printed in the corner of the working canvas and on a separate sheet, in which all numerical numbers are correlated with symbols.
Next, you need to put the rhinestones into boxes or organizers. It is convenient to use paint palettes in your work. All types of rhinestones will always be at hand; symbols can be signed next to each cell.

The basis of laying out the mosaic is the fixation of rhinestones to the adhesive base of the working canvas. Rhinestones can be laid out with special tweezers, which come in the set.
You can also use a stick. The plastic stick has a hole in the center. Its tip is dipped into glue, glue particles fall into the hole.
Rhinestones stick to the glue and are easily transferred to the canvas.

Do not peel off the entire protective layer; the adhesive base may dry out. It is better to peel off a small piece and lay out part of the mosaic.
If the mosaic canvas is large, you can divide it into 2 halves and lay them out one by one. If you start working from the middle, the finished canvas will be better preserved than if you lay it out from the bottom rows. In this case, when moving to the upper rows, the wrists will rub against the laid out fragments.

Diamond mosaic photo work

Depending on the amount of free time, one mosaic can take from one to several months. After all the rhinestones are glued, the work needs to be framed in a baguette or. The workshop offers regular and anti-reflective glass. Ordinary glass is chosen by those who like the shine of rhinestones. If you want a matte mosaic, choose anti-reflective glass.

The canvas cannot be folded; it is better to roll it up and put it in the box from the set.

Also give the bag with the remaining rhinestones to the workshop. If several pieces come off during registration, the master will be able to replace them himself. The mosaic should be hung on a well-lit wall. In the rays of the sun you will be able to appreciate the beauty of the picture.

Creative kits for diamond embroidery contain everything you need for work, but there are still “things” that can make work more comfortable and enjoyable. You will find a large selection of accessories for diamond embroidery in the Tsvetnoye online store. Look through our catalog and get acquainted with the little things that can be useful to every master. Next to each offer there is a detailed description and an affordable price. Choose everything you need!

“Tsvetnoye” - useful little things for creativity

Are you a fan of diamond painting? Give yourself useful “things” – accessories that will make your favorite activity even more enjoyable. First of all, we recommend buying a container for diamond embroidery - an indispensable item for convenient storage of creative supplies.

When working with small rhinestones, you will need a lamp and a magnifying glass, which will significantly reduce eye strain.

To transfer diamonds from a container or sorting saucer, you can use tweezers or a diamond embroidery pencil. Its adhesive rod allows you to conveniently grab each rhinestone and carefully place it in the place for sticking. The pencil is easily erased and does not leave unnecessary marks. To repair a pencil, there is a special sharpener for diamond embroidery.

There are devices for convenient and reliable gluing of rhinestones. One of them is a soldering iron for diamond embroidery, effectively heating decorative elements and helping to firmly glue even the smallest parts of the mosaic. An easel and a hand rest may also be useful for your work.

As a rule, accessories for diamond embroidery make good gifts for needlewomen, who gratefully accept such gifts and happily use them in their work.

You can always buy useful “things” for creativity in the Tsvetnoye online store. As usual, we wish you pleasant shopping and inspiration!

We create diamond paintings - beautiful and easy

I have been doing diamond paintings for a long time and I have already written about them on this blog. At first I bought patterns with rhinestones and made pictures for myself, made them, and gave them to friends and family members. Now I work with them more and more; buying ready-made ones is simply expensive and pointless. Sometimes I make portraits to order, and just images at the customer’s choice.

Not long ago I came across a special program with which you can create a diagram for diamond paintings yourself. Then, using this scheme, it is not difficult to order the necessary rhinestones in the online store and the adhesive checkered base.

Here is the original photo and what I got in this program:

Just imagine this picture, which will still sparkle and shimmer depending on the lighting.

So, the program's capabilities:

The selection of colors and rhinestones is separate, which is important. You can exclude some of them, or vice versa add a new color;
- possibility of image scaling. Moreover, make it both smaller and larger. In this regard, there is complete freedom, which is very convenient and often necessary;
- there is manual editing, and you can not only correct it, but directly complete the drawing, change it, finish it as needed, even contrary to the original image. For example, add a leaf to a flower for symmetry, or make the eyes in a portrait more expressive;
- gorgeous post-processing with color correction. The program creates truly implementable, and moreover, conveniently and easily implementable schemes;
- You can manually change colors. For example, in the photo from which the diagram is made they are quite faded, as often happens with portraits made to order from photographs, for example. And you can make it bright enough automatically. And then add something else, correct it, adjust it manually. And it turns out just incredibly beautiful. Of course, all this could have been done during the layout process, as many craftsmen I know do, but it doesn’t turn out as good as when a professional program does it all.

There are 3 program options:

Basic, advanced and master versions, how they differ can be read on the website: http://almaznaja-mozaika.ru

Here is the process of working with the master version:

1. Upload a picture, select the number of colors and size, create a diagram:

2. Here you can adjust the color, add or remove. And here you can do a partial covering of the picture, if you need to cover not the entire picture with rhinestones, but only a selected fragment.

3. And the last mode, I like the most, here you can create. Add, draw, correct everything as your heart desires.

Once editing is complete, we save everything. The program gives us a Legend for the pattern - colors and number of rhinestones by color and in grams

as well as the scheme itself in several versions. On separate sheets in large format and one large one for printing along with a color palette.

What I personally liked

What I liked most, of course, was the price. A year of working with the software already pays off on two or three schemes. Now I understand how much producers earn from them. And this despite the fact that they also buy materials at wholesale prices. It is quite possible that this is exactly the program they are working on, well, or something similar to it for sure.

Translates perfectly, almost no need to edit manually. More precisely, I often use this type of image editing, but not to correct the “jambs” of the program, but to finish drawing something myself, with my own hands. And such freedom of creativity cannot but please.

The quality of even the first version is simply amazing. To be honest, sometimes in a store you buy more poorly made circuits than the program simply produces in a minute. So the point here is not only to make a diagram of a given and specific image, but also the quality and ease of implementation will often be better than that of purchased options.

1. If the canvas suddenly gets wrinkled, what should you do?

First option: iron with steam on the back of the diagram, always with a cloth. Iron temperature no more than 120. C or on the silk program.

Second option: roll up the rhinestone picture with the adhesive base facing out and let it sit for 2-3 weeks.

2. Care of tweezers.

To make the tweezers last longer, do not forget to put on an elastic band after you finish laying out the diamond picture.

3. If paper is stuck to the adhesive base of your picture. Don't worry, this can be fixed quickly. You need to take a brush and gently wet this area with water, and then remove the stuck paper with tweezers. Dry the glue with a hairdryer, and you can continue your work again.

4. While working, cover the adhesive frame of the diamond mosaic with pieces of paper from the adhesive tape, letters facing up. This will help prevent fine dust from sticking. And after completing the work, you can line this frame with the remaining rhinestones.

5. The bags with rhinestones are marked with color numbers; for ease of laying out, you can apply the designations from the diagram.

6. Instead of the molds from the set, you can use trays with lids (very convenient), a paint palette or empty boxes of watercolor paints.

7. How can I post diamond paintings?

Method 1: can be laid out in rows along the entire length of the painting (tiring and the pattern may shift)

Method 2: can be laid out in strips. Practice shows that peeling off pieces of 5*10 cm or 10*10 cm (the width of the adhesive strip is about 5 cm) is most convenient.

Method 3: you can assemble by color or in a checkerboard pattern (the main thing is that the rhinestone clicks). With such methods, the pattern does not shift, and the rhinestones themselves align.

There are no uniform rules for laying out rhinestones. Post it at your convenience.

It is important not to peel off the entire protective layer!!!

8. If you decide to roll up the assembled or unfinished diamond embroidery, then roll the rhinestones outward.

9. The finished picture made of rhinestones can be ironed with steam so that the rhinestones stick better. You can iron both from the back and from the front side of the painting. We iron only through a cloth, not with a hot iron. Before ironing, try it on a corner of the mosaic.

10. Place something heavy on the laid out part of the diamond embroidery so that the diamonds stick better. Use your imagination and you will succeed!!!

11. The finished diamond embroidery can be coated on top with acrylic varnish or automotive aerosol varnish. This is necessary for better fixation of the rhinestones.

12. During the laying process, sometimes you have to align the rows of rhinestones. This can be done with a ruler or a plastic card.

13. If the adhesive layer is broken, you can use glue or double-sided tape.

14. Sometimes it happens that there are not enough rhinestones of some color, don’t panic! Try to choose from the colors that are in the set.

15. The finished work should be rolled with a rolling pin or a bottle of water.

Diamond Mosaic Tips for all cases:

Creating a mosaic picture can be divided into three stages: preparation, laying out and design. This article on diamond mosaics provides useful tips on laying out the stones and working with the painting canvas while assembling the mosaic.

Remove the glossy film from the base of the diamond painting only in sections.

Bend the protective tracing paper off the adhesive base partially, in small sections. Ideally, it is good to seal the open fragment in one working session, without re-sticking the film onto the adhesive base, so tear off as much protective film from the canvas as you are ready to fill. It’s even better to simply fold back the protective paper and tear it off at the end of each lay-out. Depending on the manufacturer, the paper protection can be one single sheet or divided into narrow vertical strips. During breaks between work, if there are any unsealed areas left, cover them again with protective tracing paper. Dust particles and small debris get onto the adhesive layer, and the base loses its sticky properties. All tips on diamond embroidery with stones.

Tips for diamond mosaic: how to lay out rhinestones

You can lay out rhinestones on canvas in different ways. As a rule, the picture is filled with fragments and is rarely laid out in vertical or horizontal single rows along the entire height or length of the picture, because with such a lay-out the picture often shifts. The mosaic can be assembled by color or rhinestones can be glued in a checkerboard pattern. From which angle to start the painting, each master decides for himself according to personal preferences. If you select the upper left corner, then, as you move forward in your work, you do not touch the already laid out pebbles with your hands and leave the finished areas aside.

An important recommendation in diamond mosaic is to align the laid out rhinestones

In the process of work, as you lay out the pebbles, align their rows using a ruler (plastic card, etc.), pressing them vertically and horizontally, ultimately this guarantees a neat appearance of the finished picture, in the image of which there will be no distortions due to for unevenly glued mosaic elements. With any method of laying out, it is important to periodically correct the pieces that have already been laid out, because correcting something in a finished picture is much more difficult.

Diamond rhinestones with a defect should not be used immediately; excess rhinestones solve this problem

When you come across defective rhinestones with some kind of defect (chipped, cracked, holes, convex bottom), do not stick them on right away, leave them until the end of the work. In most cases, diamond mosaic kits come with extra rhinestones. Therefore, at the final stage, surpluses are discovered, where all the “defective” pebbles will end up if they are left aside during the process of creating the picture. Burrs on rhinestones (remnants of plastic around the edges) can be cut off with a regular nail file or file. If a round glass pebble falls apart into two parts, the mirror bottom and the crystal itself, they can be glued back together with varnish or glue.

If necessary, rhinestones can be glued to the base of the diamond painting

You can use an iron to smooth out creases and folds. Iron them on a flat, hard surface with an iron preheated to 110-120°C. You can iron both from the back and from the front side, but be sure to use several layers of fabric or gauze. Especially strong creases can be steamed using the steam from the iron itself, you can slightly moisten the canvas by sprinkling with water or moistening the gauze/fabric through which you are ironing.

If you need to roll the work cloth into a roll, do it with the rhinestones facing out

For temporary storage of an already assembled painting and in between working on a diamond mosaic, if it is not possible to leave it unfolded, roll the base with the rhinestones outward. Then the diamonds will not fall off, and there will be no creases on the canvas. The recommendation applies to all types of mosaics in diamond crafts, with full and partial laying of rhinestones.

Tips for joining parts of a large canvas

Manufacturers, as a rule, divide the canvas of a large painting into parts, which later need to be glued together. When assembling a large canvas from several sheets, leave one row blank along the gluing line. These rows on the borders of the sheets will need to be filled with pebbles after the parts of the canvas have been glued together. This makes it more convenient to connect parts of the picture, and the rhinestones are laid out evenly along the joining line.
