DIY cat pillow ideas. We sew cool pillows: step-by-step master classes

Good afternoon, dear needlewomen and all blog readers!

I once published photos of unusual pillows, cheerful and positive. Among them were cat pillows. And some readers became interested in them. Today I decided to tell you how to make a cat pillow.

There are probably a lot of people who love these cute pets. They are so affectionate, so smart. Cats are known to relieve fatigue and stress and even heal!

A pillow in the shape of a cat will also help lift your mood; you can cuddle it or lie down, snuggle up and hug it comfortably.

Cat pillows

The fastest way to sew a cat pillow. These can be either small toy pillows or a big cat - a sofa cushion.

Cat pillow. Pattern

I offer you a selection of patterns for cat pillows from PrettyToys magazine, as well as others found in free Internet sources.

Save the pattern to your computer, enlarge it in the editor and print it.

You can also transfer the pattern onto graph paper, and then draw a larger template in the cells.

Or simply draw the details of the cat's pillow on a piece of paper (newspaper) while looking at the pattern on the screen. Even if you don’t know how to draw, you will definitely succeed! After all, there is no need to be precise here.

How to sew a cat pillow with your own hands

For the cat pillow, we select a bright fabric; it will be interesting to make a cat from flowered fabric, from different scraps.

We transfer the pattern to the fabric folded in half with the right side inward, cut out the parts and stitch them on the machine, leaving a little space so that you can stuff the pillow with filler.

For double seals, sew the body parts together.

By the way, you can also make seams on the outside, then you won’t have to turn out small parts, but just carefully finish the edges with a zigzag. Such products with seams facing out are also very interesting and creative.

If the edges of the fabric are not fraying much, you can try cutting the fringe along the edge with scissors; you will get a tousled cat pillow.

All that remains is to fill the parts with padding polyester or holofiber. Sew paws and tails to the body, if required by the model.

We sew on eyes - buttons, decorate with flowers and bows. Isn’t it true, it turned out to be a funny DIY cat pillow?!

I would like to present to you the works of Olga Arisep - two adorable plush little cats.

Plush kittens. Work by Olga Arisep

Kittens are made of faux fur with short pile. The head is mounted on a cotter pin, so kittens can turn their heads. For the eyes, special glass eyes for cats were used. The nose is embroidered with floss threads. Inner side ears - cotton in a small white and pink check. Tail on a wire frame. Filling: super fluff. The bow is made from satin ribbon and decorated with a pearl-like bead.

Size of a white kitten: 14 cm in height, 13 cm in length without a tail, red - 20 x 22 cm.

Cat on the pillow

Other pillow options with cats

Sew a regular rectangular fabric cover and embroider a cat on it or make an applique from scraps.

A pattern like the one in the photo on the left can be embroidered using the sashiko technique, for example.

According to the diagram in the photo on the right, you can not only cross-stitch a cat, but also knit a cover using the fillet technique.

If you want black cats to live with you, sew a pillow cover from black fabric, preferably fluffy, and sew on eyes - buttons and whiskers from braid.

Let your handmade cat pillows bring comfort, tranquility and peace to your home!

Quite often, parents are faced with the problem that their child does not want to fall asleep. And when a bedtime story and a switched-on night light don’t help, a hand-sewn toy pillow comes to the rescue. With such a pillow, a child can play in bed, getting ready for bed. And at the same time, soft and safe, she can easily stay with him at night.

So what is a toy pillow? As the name suggests, this is a pillow that is shaped like a toy. In most cases, some animal is chosen as the character. Of course, you can buy any toy pillow in the store, but only sewn with your own hands will it give your child good and happy dreams.

How to make a toy pillow with your own hands

To make a toy-shaped pillow with your own hands, you will need a minimum of materials: a pattern, filling and fabric. You can find the pattern on the Internet or draw it yourself. It is better to choose a natural material that is soft to the touch. Flannel, chintz, calico are perfect.

You should approach the choice of filler for a toy responsibly. It must be hypoallergenic and wear-resistant. You can take a special filler for soft toys or polyester balls for stuffing pillows.

An important point when making a toy pillow with your own hands is the choice of decor. Since this toy is intended primarily for sleeping, it is not recommended to use buttons, beads or seed beads. For decoration, braid or soft lace is suitable, which will need to be secured well.

Funny soft cat with your own hands. Master class

If you decide to make such a pillow with your own hands for the first time, then it is best to sew it in the shape of a cat. Thanks to a very simple pattern, this toy pillow is very easy to sew. Moreover, the whole process will take you about two hours.

So, we will need:

  • cotton fabric;
  • filler;
  • floss threads;
  • pattern.

Operating procedure

  1. We enlarge the cat pattern to the size we need and print it on a printer (or transfer the pattern onto paper directly from the screen). Then we transfer the pattern to the fabric folded into two flaps. Sew along the contour and cut out.
  2. In the places where the head and body will be future attached, we make crosswise cuts on both blanks. Through the slots we fill the blanks with filler (there is no need to stuff it very tightly, the cat should remain as soft as possible). After which we sew up the holes, even mend them.
  3. We will embroider the cat's face with floss threads. First we embroider the triangle of the nose using satin stitch, then we form a mustache. We embroider the cat's eyes with French knots. We sew the head and body together with a hidden seam.

Agree, making such a soft toy pillow in the shape of a cat with your own hands is more than simple. Or this:

Today we will sew such an original and very cute cat. If desired, it can also be used as a pillow. Although it looks much more appropriate as an unusual interior detail.

Sewing this beautiful and original pillow in the shape of a cat yourself is quite simple.

Making a cat pillow

1. First we need to make patterns of all the individual parts of the cat: its head, ears, paws. Then we move on to cutting out the main body of the pillow. The width of the pillow must be such that it can accommodate the head and paws.

2. We cut out the nose according to the pattern, increasing its linear dimensions by about 1–1.5 cm. To fill the nose, we cut out three parts from padding polyester, each should be smaller than the other (the first is slightly smaller than the base of the nose). The parts can be point-to-point connected to each other with glue.

We put fragments of padding polyester into the main part of the nose, sew along the edge and tighten it, giving the desired shape.

3. Making the eyes. We take special cardboard for bags so that later we can wash the main cover. We cut out two circles from cardboard according to the size of the eyes on the pattern. We cut out two circles from white fabric, with a diameter 1–1.5 cm larger than the pattern.

Take black iris threads. Using a large needle, make a French knot. Sheathing white fabric in a circle. We put cardboard inside and tighten it.

4. Cut out two squares of blue fabric for the head. We glue one square with interlining from the inside out. We transfer the design onto the fabric and mark it with stitches.

We place a sheet of paper underneath to make it easier to advance the fabric. Sew the mustache and mouth in a zigzag along the marked lines. It is better to use thick threads. We bring the threads out with a needle inside out and fasten them, carefully removing excess paper.

5. Sew the nose to the head. First, carefully glue it, and then sew it in a circle.

6. Sew the eyes to the head in the same way.

7. Making ears. Inside the ears you need to put one or two padding pads slightly smaller than the base and stitch them from the bottom.

8. Cut out the head from the square, adding 1.5–2 cm to the seam. Sew on the ears. The main thing here is not to confuse right and left.

Fold the top and bottom parts of the head and sew them together. Leave a piece at the bottom so you can turn it inside out.

Trim off excess fabric. We turn the head inside out, fill it with padding polyester, and sew up the hole.

9. Cut out the paws and tail. We sew the parts together, turn them inside out, and fill them with padding polyester. In the places where the paws are marked, we “mark” them by hand stitching with large stitches with thick thread 2-3 times.

10. Cut out the cat’s body from a rectangular piece of the main fabric, with a zipper provided on the side. We insert the front legs into the front seam and stitch. We insert the tail and two hind legs into the rear transverse seam. We also sew. We manually sew the head to the cat's body.

Separately sew a pillow from cotton fabric the right size. We fill it with padding polyester. We insert the pillow into the cat's body. That's it, our pillow cat is ready!

This is the kind of charm we got!

Home decorations are in fashion now self made. All kinds of textile accessories help to create an atmosphere of harmony and comfort very well. This very simple product will look fun and unusual. Even a novice needlewoman can handle making a soft sofa guest.

What do you need for sewing?

Use the list below to create a beautiful cat pillow:

  • pattern;
  • fabric of several natural shades for the animal or bright variegated decorative colors;
  • pins, chalk, scissors;
  • threads with a needle;
  • filler (sintepon, holofiber);
  • sewing machine, although you can make a pillow manually, for example, from felt, which does not require processing of the edges and is connected along the front side, and details such as eyes and nose can be easily glued to the base.

So, you don’t need anything special to make a cute souvenir. You probably have some small scraps at home. Any workpiece can be made even from several parts, it just requires more seams.

Which sample to choose?

In order for you to get an original cat pillow, the pattern must be appropriate. First of all, you need to choose what your product will look like and find the appropriate template. If you want to take the blank you like, simply print it on a printer at the desired scale. If the element does not fit completely on the sheet, divide it into two or more, and then glue it with tape.

Consider your experience, if you are a beginner, try it simple circuits. Below are templates designed for beginner craftswomen, so you can safely choose any option.

What is the sequence of actions)?

To make a simple accessory, you need to do the following:

  1. Make paper blanks for the parts.
  2. Lay out the elements on the fabric, trace around the seam allowances and cut out.
  3. The parts are usually sewn down along the wrong side, followed by turning them inside out and filling them with padding polyester or holofiber. Don't forget to leave a small hole for this, which is sewn up by hand at the very end.
  4. If the ears and tail were cut out as separate parts, they should be sewn to the finished product or into a seam.
  5. The eyes, nose, mouth and mustache are embroidered (don't forget to use a hoop) or the blank parts are attached using a needle and thread. This must be done before sewing the base seams. You can glue the parts last.

Work always follows this pattern, regardless of the complexity of the product. The technology differs in the number of seams that need to be made. The simplest thing is to connect two identical parts in the form of a cat's silhouette.

In this case, you will actually only make one seam unless the tail is made as a separate piece. In the picture below, the pattern also suggests the presence of a side part in the pillow. For this purpose, two additional stripes are made. So, the product can be given more volume.

Although it is enough to simply sew two parts.

The simplest product

If you don't like to stitch along arched lines, you can choose a very easy method. You can quickly and effortlessly create a cat pillow with your own hands. There is no need to make patterns here at all. The base is made in the form of a regular rectangle or square, and ears, tail and muzzle details are sewn to it.

If you choose material with cat themes and patterns, you will get an original, eye-catching bright accessory.

Flat product of complex shape

If you have no problem stitching along a rounded line and want your DIY cat pillow to be more realistic, rather than looking like a square “bag,” use the following templates.

The first option is performed as one piece with the tail and ears. In the diagram, the arrow indicates the direction of the grain thread, although if the size of the fabric does not allow the part to be positioned exactly this way, do it as best as possible. This is not a dress, but just a small accessory. The seam allowances and the line where the stitching is performed are also indicated. An opening for turning and filling is left on the side.

The second option is a great idea. The outline of the product is very reminiscent of a heart, and additional decorative stripes of the same shape can be used in any quantity and size.

In the third sample, the tail is made as a separate piece and sewn to the base. You will need to cut out two parts of each element.

Pillow in the shape of a cat's face

Another cheerful option is the head of an animal with an emotional one that can be either cheerful, happy, or sad, causing tenderness.

Using such a blank, you can make only the base itself voluminous, and sew or glue the remaining parts flat. But it’s even better to make all the parts slightly voluminous. When sewing on a nose or muzzle part, simply place a little filler under it and attach the element to the end.

Pillow toy

If you have some experience in needlework or have already practiced on simple samples, you can move on to creating a voluminous souvenir. Below is a cat toy pillow. The pattern in the same picture allows you to create a cute three-dimensional creature for your sofa. If you choose terry or fluffy fabric that imitates wool, you will get a very natural animal.

Pillows "Offended cats"

The pattern for creating such a cute accessory is suitable for any of the above, since these creatures can be of any shape, both in a flat version and in the form of a 3D toy. The most important thing is to make a “facial expression” that matches the emotions.

All parts can be easily made from felt or fleece. You can draw the template yourself or use the muzzle pattern that has already been discussed. To make different "Offended Cats" pillows, the pattern doesn't really matter. The main thing is the arched mouth, and it is usually embroidered, although it can also be cut out of pink material. The details of the muzzle are easy to stitch or even glue, for example, from felt.

You saw how a cat pillow is made. The pattern (any of the options) given in the article will help you create this cute accessory,

Handmade decorative elements always bring comfort, warmth to the interior and reveal the soul of the owner of the house. Sewing a sofa cushion is easy, but many people want to make it unusual. Very interesting topic for needlework - do-it-yourself cat pillow. Patterns and the algorithm for sewing such a product are quite a popular topic among handmade lovers. The simplest and, at the same time, original ideas you will find in this article.

Why cats?

The topic of cats is always relevant. Most people are not indifferent to them. A cat, especially a sleeping one, personifies calmness and tranquility; they not only touch you, but also relieve stress. Therefore, the idea of making a pillow cat seems very successful.

It can be implemented in different ways:

  • You can make a pillow in the shape of a cat;
  • You can sew an applique in the shape of a cat onto a regular pillowcase;
  • You can sew a bolster pillow to which you can sew a cat’s head and tail with paws.

Important! A cat can be embodied not only in a sofa pillow, but also in a sachet pillow with aromatic soothing herbs.

We will not be able to cover all the variations on the theme of cat pillows, so we propose to consider the most interesting, in our opinion. Let's start with something simple.

Application

If you just want to decorate a pillow with an image of a cat, then you can get by with appliqué.

Algorithm of actions:

  • If you have the makings of an artist, draw the cat yourself. If you don’t want to bother, print out the finished picture of the cat you like.
  • Then transfer the pattern from the paper to the fabric.
  • Cut out the eyes and nose from scraps of fabric of the appropriate color or embroider.

Important! If the pillow is purely decorative, then the eyes and nose can be sewn on in plastic. Buttons or ready-made eyes designed for soft toys are suitable for this.

  • Then glue the blank with hot glue or sew it to the pillowcase.

Ideas for interiors:

  • For a children's room, you can use cartoon cats for appliqué.
  • For a living room or bedroom, the silhouette of a black cat on any light background will look interesting.
  • You can sew a pillowcase with an applique for any ready-made sofa cushion.
  • You can make a pillow from old jeans, sew a pocket from them in the center, and the sly face of a cat seems to be peeking out of the pocket. It looks funny.
  • A set of two identical pillows, where an applique in the form of a silhouette of a walking cat smoothly transitions from one pillow to another, will also look original. That is, the picture is divided into two parts. It looks like one when both pillows are side by side.

DIY cat pillow - it's simple and fun!

Embroidery

If you like to embroider, you can make a pillowcase decorated with embroidery for the finished pillow.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. The back of the pillowcase can be sewn from any suitable fabric, and for the front, take a special fabric for embroidery - canvas. It comes in different colors.
  2. On the websites of needlewomen there are a large number of embroidery patterns on the theme of love for cats. Choose the one that suits you, print and embroider.
  3. After the picture is ready, sew the pillowcase.

Knitting

DIY knitted cat pillows will look especially unusual and beautiful.

Algorithm of actions:

  • Select the threads and the desired number of knitting needles.
  • Think over the parameters of the pillow, knit a small square and count how many loops are in 1 cm.
  • According to calculations, cast on the required number of loops and simply knit the fabric of the desired size. This could be 2 squares or a rectangle that you fold in half.

Important! The knitting should be tight.

  • When the pillowcase is knitted, fill it with filler (sintepon, holofiber or any other).
  • Now make the ears. To do this, you need to lay the seam diagonally at the two upper corners. These resulting triangles will be the ears.
  • Decorate the face. Using threads of a contrasting color, embroider the eyes, mustache, and nose. The nose can be made slightly convex.

You can complete the work here, or you can also tie the legs, which will give your pillow more originality.

DIY cat pillow in the form of a cushion

A sofa cushion is a very convenient thing. It can be placed under your head, under your back, or used as an armrest. If you make it a little flattened and wrapped in the shape of the letter C, then such a pillow can even be used for feeding a baby. Interesting design such a product will make it not only useful, but also beautiful.

Method number 1:

  1. A sofa cushion can be sewn quickly, but first you need to think about the filling.

Important! Foam rubber rolled into a roll holds its shape well at first, but its big drawback is that over time it absorbs unpleasant odors and begins to crumble. The best option would be to use more modern fillers, for example, holofiber. It is durable and practical, mites and fungus do not like it. If you want your roller to also be orthopedic, you can fill it with buckwheat or buckwheat husks. In this case, the fabric for the roller should be quite dense.

  1. You need to cut a rectangle from the fabric, the length of which will be equal to the length of the future roller, and the width will be equal to its thickness.

Important! For a roller in the shape of a cat, it would be interesting to take a striped fabric that is pleasant to the body.

  1. On the sides that will be pulled together, you need to process the edges with a zigzag and turn them in 1-2 cm, stitch them so that the drawstring comes out. You need to insert a braid into it, with the help of which the sides of the roller will later be tightened.
  2. The prepared rectangle needs to be sewn from the inside out to form a cylinder.
  3. Next, turn it right side out and fill it with filling.
  4. After this, you need to pull the ribbons on the sides and secure them with a knot.
  5. After all the manipulations done, you have a roller. All that remains is to turn him into a cat. To do this, you need to sew a cat's head on one end and a tail on the other:
    • For the head, make a ball out of fabric and filling, to which you sew triangles-ears, and also embroider a muzzle with a mustache.
    • For the tail, make a “sausage” out of fabric and filling.
  6. All this must be sewn on both ends of the roller. If you want, you can work a little more and make the paws.

There's another one interesting option How to sew a cat pillow with your own hands, where the head will not hang separately.

Method number 2:

  1. Similarly, cut out a rectangle of the desired size from the fabric, sew it on the wrong side to make a cylinder.
  2. On one side, sew the end in a semicircle, and on the other side, leave it open for now and turn the workpiece inside out.
  3. Now prepare the remaining parts. For each ear, take two fabric triangles and one padding polyester triangle of the same size.
  4. Fold the fabric triangles face to face, and place the padding polyester part on top.
  5. Sew around the perimeter 0.7 cm from the edge, leaving an opening of a couple of centimeters to turn the product inside out.
  6. Make the tail of any shape (straight, curved). Sew it from two halves, you can stuff it a little with holofiber.
  7. For the paws, first draw a template, for example, in the form of a straight part, which at the bottom turns into three plump fingers. For four legs you need 8 identical blanks.
  8. Fold the pieces of fabric for the paws in half and trace the template from the inside out. You should stitch the seam first and then just cut (0.5cm from the seam).

Important! In bends, this indentation must be cut almost to the seam, so that after turning it inside out, nothing will be pulled anywhere.

  1. When you have turned the paws onto the face, fill only the lower part with holofiber (where the toes are) and sew across it so that the filling remains in place.
  2. After all the elements are ready, sew them to the body: the legs are on the sides, the ears are on the rounded part of the roller.
  3. Now fill the roller with filler, bend the edge and manually strong thread walk along the edge. Pull it tight. After this you can sew on the tail.

Important! In a similar way, you can sew a curved cushion cushion (like a horseshoe, banana or the letter C). Everything is done in the same way as in the previous case, only from the fabric you cut out not a rectangle, but two parts of the desired curved shape. Then proceed in the same way. Pregnant and nursing mothers love these pillows.

How to sew a cat pillow with your own hands?

A DIY pillow made in the shape of a cat can be intended for different purposes:

  • Small figurines of cats can be stuffed with aromatic herbs, juniper shavings and serve as sachets.
  • Larger figures can be used as pillows or simply as decoration.

  • Select the fabric and transfer the pattern onto it. You will get two mirror parts.

  • Next, fill the cat figurine with filler and sew up the left hole.

Important! The body can be sewn from fabric close to the natural color of the cat, or, on the contrary, you can take a cheerful fabric with a small flower or colored stripe.

By the way, it is not at all necessary to sew a whole cat. You can make a pillow in the shape of a cat's head.

Option #2. Procedure:

  1. To sew such a product, create a template in the form of an outline of a cat's head with ears and transfer it to the fabric.
  2. Now cut out two identical pieces.
  3. The back part can be left untouched, but the front part needs to be decorated with a muzzle. “Facial features” can be applied using embroidery, appliqué, or even painted with acrylic fabric paint.
  4. Sew both parts on the wrong side, leaving a hole of a few centimeters.
  5. Turn the workpiece inside out, stuff it with filler and finally sew it up.

Important! If you fill the pillow with buckwheat, buckwheat husks or juniper shavings, then such beauty will also be a wonderful “anti-stress”.
