Sew a white bag from leather. Faux leather bag: sewing master class

Sew a bag from genuine leather It's quite difficult to do it yourself. Therefore, for beginners, I recommend that you first sew a bag from artificial leather. The technology for sewing it is not very different from sewing a bag made of fabric or jeans, with the exception of finishing front seams.

A leather bag always looks elegant and fashionable and the price of a genuine leather bag is always high. Maybe that's why many people try to sew a bag or handbag, but, as a rule, they fail. The fact is that sewing bags and leather haberdashery is a separate direction in sewing, much like sewing shoes, so it’s not surprising that many people can’t sew a bag with their own hands.

In this article I will not explain how to sew a bag step by step. There are thousands of models of bags to make universal video or a master class in the form of a photo is impossible. But you can give universal advice on how to make a pattern for a bag model you like, perform one or another technological operation, how to install accessories with your own hands, etc.

How to sew women's bag made of genuine leather. Bag with lining and zip fastening. You will learn a lot useful tips how to work with genuine leather.

It is difficult to sew any products made of genuine leather, especially bags with a rigid frame. And this is due primarily to the special technology of sewing genuine leather, the presence of special tools and a sewing machine, the use of special applied materials, and, of course, the presence of experience.

First of all, you will need a sewing machine capable of sewing leather. Modern models sewing machines Do not use rough materials such as leather for sewing; read the instructions carefully. The only option is to find an old Podolsk-type machine from friends or relatives, maybe even with a manual drive. By the way, you can even buy it from an advertisement, but not more than 1000 rubles.

A construction knife with a replaceable blade can also be used for cutting leather. Do not forget that the blade of such a knife is not only replaceable, but segmented. Using pliers, carefully break off the dull part of the blade, and it will become sharp.
Paired with such a knife, you will also need a piece of plywood or board on which you will cut out the leather parts of the bag.

If your bag model has a lot of metal fittings, buy a punch like this in the store right away. Using it, it will be easy to make a neat hole for buttons, rivets and other accessories.

Instead of leather glue, you can use this adhesive tape.

This is not the entire list of tools necessary for working with genuine leather, but the most important ones. Without them, you will not be able to sew a high-quality leather bag. In addition, look at the general photo, you will need a special hammer, awl, thread, sewing needles, etc.

In addition to the main parts for the bag, you will also need many small elements, which are quite difficult to take into account at once. I will explain everything in detail as I assemble the bag. For now, just keep in mind that all skin scraps, even small ones, need to be saved; they may be useful to us in the future.

Make patterns for any parts of the bag immediately with allowances. Leather is quite an expensive material to forget about allowances when cutting and make other mistakes.
Seam allowances 0.7-1.0 cm.

The remaining parts have a rectangular shape and it is not necessary to make a pattern, at least use graph paper for them. However, perhaps you will decide to sew just such a model from fabric in the future, then ready-made patterns will make your work easier.

Two options for soft shaped bag patterns

It is not necessary to create a pattern for a bag from paper, but it won’t hurt to make a pattern of the main parts. The fact is that it is almost impossible to determine the size and shape of a bag using a paper pattern. In the sewn state, the bag acquires volume and, therefore, changes its calculated dimensions and shape. Therefore, make paper patterns of the main parts of the bag, pin or glue them and make sure that the shape and size of the bag suits you. If not, feel free to adjust the pattern and try it on again.

The consumption of genuine leather for sewing a bag must be calculated accurately. Moreover, you always need to buy more leather, since sometimes you have to “work around” various defects in the leather (crumpled areas, holes, abrasions, etc.)
But on average, to sew a bag made of genuine leather, you will need a skin measuring 100-120 square decimeters or approximately 1.0-1.2 square meter.
Depending on the model, the presence of finishing elements, pockets and other details, and most importantly the size of the bag, you can keep within 180-100 dm/sq. But in any case, you need to lay out the cut details, since leather is often sold with defects (stains, holes, folds, dents, etc.)

Don't forget about the finishing details of the bag. Because if you don’t have enough of a small piece of leather, you won’t be able to buy a small piece. Genuine leather is sold only as whole skins. By the way, sometimes it is the size of the skin that determines the model and size of the bag.

If you don't have enough experience, don't start sewing a bag from new leather right away. Find an old raincoat or jacket in your wardrobe. Take it apart and try to match the remaining areas of leather for parts of your bag. As a last resort, such leather can be combined with pieces of artificial leather or fabric, such as corduroy.

The connecting seams are sewn down with allowances of 0.7-1.0 cm. Do not forget to check the degree of pressure of the presser foot on the fabric and the height of the rack. Leather is a fairly dense and rough material and avoids damage to household sewing machine It is better to sew it on an industrial machine or an old manual sewing machine such as Podolsk, Singer.

To make it easier to pierce several layers of leather, you can buy special sewing needles for leather at a sewing supply store. They have a special blade shape and such a needle does not pierce the skin, but cuts it.

Not always, but often, the seam allowances of the stitched parts of a leather bag need to be glued. For this operation, you can use regular rubber glue and a brush. But it is better and more careful to glue the allowances using adhesive double-sided tape.

Tear off the paper protective strip and press the seam allowance.

To ensure that the seams on the front of the bag look even and smooth, you will need a hammer. Tap lightly along the seam with a hammer or the handles of heavy metal tailor's scissors.

It is very difficult to make finishing stitches on leather, since a regular presser foot will “slow down” the top layer of leather, the stitch will be “shallow” and even a tear in the leather may form due to frequent piercing with a needle. This is a responsible operation, treat it as responsibly as possible, since the skin cannot be stitched twice. You must do the finishing stitch the first time without mistakes or rework.

Therefore, be sure to change your regular foot to a Teflon-coated foot. There are a number of other devices for sewing leather, but this Teflon foot is the simplest and most inexpensive way.

And if you also play it safe and rub the seams with moistened soap, the seam will be flawless.
See Decorative stitching on a tricky area.

After the base of the leather bag is assembled along with pockets and other finishing elements, begin making the belt. Determine what type of clasp you will use, what hardware, and how you will attach the strap to the bag.

Do not use accessories that are too expensive and difficult to install. Metal zippers, metal rings, rivets, zippers, and buttons are easy to install with your own hands. And they definitely need to be used when decorating a leather bag. Metal gives natural leather greater solidity and attractiveness, emphasizing the noble properties of natural material.

And to install the fittings you will need this kind of punch No. 3 or No. 4. You can even buy a set of these punches if you regularly sew leather items, especially bags.
When punching a hole in the leather, place a thick wooden spacer on the back side. You cannot punch holes on a metal surface; the punch blade will quickly become dull. And make sure that other parts of the bag do not accidentally fall under the punch.

Today it is quite difficult to be original. The range of products is so wide that it is sometimes very difficult to choose something unusual. That is why in this article we will talk about how to sew a leather bag, and what should be taken into account.

Rules for working with leather

Initially, you need to know the rules of working with this or that material. That is why, before figuring out how to sew a leather bag, you need to know all the nuances and precautions in the work.

  1. To use a sewing machine you will need special needles. In some cases, you can also install a special foot (with a roller) for sewing leather products.
  2. For each product you need to be able to choose leather. So, for bags it should be extremely thick, rough-made. Only in this case will the product be able to serve its owner for a longer time.
  3. When cutting parts, remember that leather stretches differently.
  4. Throwing or pinning skin is prohibited. After all, marks remain on it, which then do not disappear anywhere.
  5. The length of the machine stitch when working with leather should be as wide as possible. After all, if you sew a bag with a fine stitch, the leather may simply tear (press through) in the stitching areas, which will lead to the product tearing.
  6. It is better to cut the leather not with tailor's scissors, but with a special shoemaker's or stationery knife.
  7. The edges of the leather are not overlocked. After all, they do not have the property of rolling.
  8. Standard machine fastenings are not applied to leather. To prevent the product from coming apart at the seams, the thread on the wrong side must be tied into a knot.
  9. It is important to remember that high-quality sewing of leather products is simply impossible without the use of glue.

Ironing the product

Sewing leather bags necessarily includes the process of ironing the material. There are certain nuances here:

  1. The leather is ironed from the wrong side.
  2. When ironing you should use low temperatures, steaming should not be used. Overheating causes the skin to shrink and become hard. It will not be possible to soften it after this.
  3. It is best to iron the skin, even from the wrong side, through gauze or a special iron. This way you can protect the fabric from damage.

If the material is ready for work, you can begin the sewing process itself.

Envelope clutch

Today it is a fashionable accessory that simply must be in the wardrobe of every self-respecting girl. In addition, making it yourself is quite simple.

To make your own leather bag perfect, patterns are a must. After all, it is much easier to create a product using a template than to sew it, as they say, by touch. IN in this case the template is extremely simple: the design is based on a rectangle (its size is the size of the clutch). Next, you need to draw triangles in four directions from the sides. However, so that their edges do not coincide a little, they are wider (this is important, because when folding the clutch, things should not fall out of the bag).

Next, the product is cut out. At the next stage, holes are punched at the edges with a special device (a hole punch for fabrics). Three edges are folded to form an envelope. They are fixed with a rivet (threaded through the holes and secured on top with a round piece). The principle is something similar to a bolt and nut. The remaining piece of fabric is the “lid” of the bag, i.e. the part that will open in order to put or take something into the clutch.

Shopping bag

It is also extremely easy to sew this leather bag with your own hands. You don't even need patterns here. For sewing, you need two rectangular pieces of leather for the bag itself, two long narrow pieces for the handles. If you wish, you can make a lining.

At the very beginning, you need to sew two equal pieces of leather from the bottom and sides. This will be the bag itself. Next you need to prepare the handles. They are easy to make too. You need to fold a piece of leather in half, bend the edges of the handle into the middle so that everything looks beautiful on the outside. The handles can be initially glued with doublerin, which will significantly strengthen them. Next, they need to be stitched along the edge to secure them.

Then the handles should be sewn to the bag itself. To do this, the top of the product needs to be slightly bent into the middle. The handles are sewn a little along the length (to the top of the bag) and always along the width. In this case, threads for sewing can be chosen either to match the product or in a contrasting color. That's all. The leather shopping bag is ready!

Men's bag

The pattern of a men's leather bag can also be extremely simple. What does a guy need? So that the bag can fit a laptop or papers. That is why the technology for cutting and sewing such a product is also extremely easy.

The bag size may be slightly larger than A4. So, for this you need to cut out two corresponding pieces of leather. This bag will also have a slightly widened bottom and a sewn-in zipper. To do this, you need to cut out two narrow but long pieces of leather:

  • on the bottom - a size slightly less than the sum of the three sides of the rectangle (the bag itself);
  • on the top - slightly larger than the wide side of the bag (the lock will be located there).

You also need to prepare two narrow and long pieces of leather for the handles (guys rarely wear such bags on their shoulders, so the handle straps may not be long).

At this stage, you can sew all the parts together. So, first the bottom of the bag is sewn to one side, then to the other. The result is an almost finished cavity.

Now we have to work on the top. Initially, you need to sew a zipper into the strip. So, for this you need to first cut it in the center. When this is done, you need to fold the cavity of the bag itself, two handles (how to sew them is described in the previous version) and fold the top the way everything should turn out in the end. Since you can’t throw, you can first fasten everything from the inside with binders or loose clothespins (however, they also sometimes press hard on the skin and leave marks, it’s worth remembering). We sew a leather bag for a guy next. Now we need to fasten all the parts together. To do this, the product is turned inside out. You need to remember that in this case there will be difficult to pass places (where the handles are sewn on). So don't sew at high speeds. That's all. If desired, the bag can be decorated with pockets.

Barrel bag

You can also sew a “barrel” (leather bag) with your own hands. In this case, the following patterns will be needed:

  1. The first piece is the top part of the bag (two pieces - on either side of the zipper).
  2. The second detail is the bottom.
  3. The third detail is two stripes on the handles.
  4. Fourth - two side parts.
  5. Other elements: two fastenings, two connecting strips.

In this case, it is worth noting that the bag will be sewn not by machine, but by hand.

First step: handle straps

Let's figure out how to make a leather bag. So, initially you need to work with the straps for the handles. They can be pre-glued with glue, and only stitched on top with decorative stitching. If the work is done manually, the skin will first have to be pierced with an awl. The needle simply won’t pick up such fabric. The straps are initially sewn to the first part on both sides. First, you must remember to insert a ring into them, to which the handle itself will be connected.

Second step: sewing the bag

We next consider the production of leather bags. At this stage it is necessary to connect the first parts together. So, to do this, you should slightly bend the ends where the zipper will no longer be sewn. Now we need to attach the snake. So, it can also be pre-glued to the skin with glue. Next, you should go through it with an awl and stitch it with thread.

Let's move on to the next step in the process of sewing a leather bag. Now you need to connect the finished top of the bag with the bottom. It's easy to do. You have to sew from the inside. If stitches of a contrasting color were laid on top, you will have to do the same along the bottom.

Step three: handles

When the bag is almost ready, all that remains is to work with the handles. So, they must be extremely strong in order to withstand the weight of everything that may be in it. This is why they can be strengthened by the skin itself. To make the handle voluminous, you can insert strips of used leather twisted into a braid or tube into the middle of it. Next, everything is stitched on the outside, first with a fastening stitch (you can also glue the handles with glue), then with a decorative stitch.

If desired, a lining can be inserted into the bag. It is sewn to the size of the bag, and after sewing it is glued in the middle so that the leather is placed on top of the lining fabric.

Stylish clutch

There is another option for sewing a clutch. In this case, you will also make a leather bag with your own hands. In this case, we will need extremely simple patterns. So, we only need to cut one rectangular piece of leather.

Initially, you will need to sew in a zipper. This is not difficult to do. So, it is worth noting that it can generally be glued. However, it is still better to “walk” along the top with a decorative seam, which will also secure it.

At this stage the bag is almost ready! Now we need to make an unusual bottom. To do this, the leather should be folded in the middle at the corners of the bag. It will look like the clutch has been cut off a little. These folds are stitched from the inside. The rest of the bag is stitched along the outside with decorative stitching. For beauty, you can also bend the corners of the product along the top, securing them with buttons. That's all. A stylish and unusual clutch is ready!

Decoration

Almost any leather bag can be very unusual and original. A master class on decorating - that's what we'll talk about now. So how can you decorate a leather product? There are several options here:

  • Rivets, buttons. These are metal parts. They can be gold or silver in color. Nowadays such elements are in fashion, so you can safely decorate your product with them. They pierce the skin quite easily, as they have sharp ends that bend and lock the part in place.
  • You can decorate leather bags with zippers. It looks very nice. So, you can take one half of a zipper with intact teeth and sew it along the contour of the bag. Alternatively, you can twist the zipper in a circle (spiral) and make a very unusual decorative element. It can be either sewn or glued.
  • Applications. You can also decorate the bag with leather or suede appliqué. Almost anything can be depicted. The picture can be sewn or glued.
  • Embroidery also looks beautiful on leather bags.

That, in principle, is all that can be used to decorate a leather bag. This is what will look stylish and original. The main thing to remember is that it is important not to overdo it with decorations. After all, too much is ugly. Everything should be in moderation.

Leather bag care

Having examined various patterns of leather bags, photos of finished products, finally it must be said that any item made of this material requires special care.

You can revive a slightly tarnished or faded leather bag with a soap solution. However, before use, you need to add a little ammonia to it. After treatment with this product, the bag is thoroughly wiped and rubbed until shiny with a soft cloth soaked in castor oil or glycerin. Next, apply a thin layer of colorless cream to the bag. After it is absorbed, the product is wiped with flannel.

An onion can also be a good way to refresh your bag. To do this, you need to take half of this vegetable and rub the product with the cut. This product also perfectly hides scuffs on a leather bag, minor scratches and cracks.

If the leather bag becomes shiny, this area should be wiped with a mixture of milk and baking soda. Preparing the solution is simple. Mix a teaspoon of soda in a glass of milk.

If the bag is made of suede, i.e. reverse leather, it also needs to be properly cared for. Such a product should be periodically wiped with a rubberized cloth or an eraser. You should not wash the material, as this will make it rougher. However, if necessary, the suede should be washed in a soapy solution, wiping it thoroughly after the procedure.

And, of course, it is worth remembering that today there are many different creams and sprays for skin care. They can be used if you want to extend the life of your favorite leather bag.

Not everyone knows that sewing a bag with your own hands from a piece of some fabric found at home or not too thick leather is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. Difficulties can arise if the material is too thick, such as leather or denim, or the pattern is not simple. I myself tried to sew my first bag back in school, there was no pattern, I just sewed a rectangular one.

How to sew a bag? Which one? A small women's room or a large roomy utility room, a fashionable and stylish one for yourself or a children's room...

A homemade summer bag can be made from almost any material you like. A model and pattern diagram with dimensions can also be made based on your own ideas about shape and spaciousness. It is advisable to start with simple patterns. Otherwise (in professional language) a pattern is called a pattern. Keep this in mind when searching too.

From felt you can build a very cute flat handbag in the shape of an owl or a wolf with huge eyes (photo below towards the end of the article) for an electronic device.

I was surprised that for some reason a lot of visitors come to this page for the query “ DIY fabric bags patterns for the very stupid". You can't talk about yourself like that. If you are planning to sew such a thing, then I think you can figure it out without difficulty. As a last resort, if something is not clear, then you can ask!

DIY bags - patterns

For example, if I carry an umbrella in my purse, then it should fit there - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Think over the situation in advance - if your umbrella breaks, you will buy a new one, which may be slightly longer than its predecessor.

It is better to make sure that a standard size umbrella fits inside.

Three patterns of GUCCI leather handbags

To begin with, I will give patterns for several GUCCI bags, they were originally given for making paper models, but they can just as well be used for sewing normal ones from fabric or other material with your own hands. The next three photos, if you are interested in the patterns, can be enlarged a little, they are clickable.

The photo shows mostly only patterns of bags without sizes. A little advice for those who have found a suitable model for themselves and want to sew a similar one. Take a picture with a pattern, open it on the big screen in any graphic editor, enlarge the diagram to the right size. It’s even easier for me - my screen is a large TV. :)

Place loose paper or tracing paper on the screen, fix it and trace with a soft pencil. If you are planning to sew a small bag, then a regular screen may be enough for you. Otherwise, increase the image to " natural size» bags (even if it doesn’t fit into the entire screen) and trace the pattern piece by piece, moving the photo on the monitor.

When cutting your bag, don't forget the seam allowances!

By the way, the leather pattern of a pendant tassel for decorating a bag is similar to a paint brush; it is made exactly as shown. It is not cut completely into strips, then the area of skin is moistened with glue and rolled into a tube.

Details such as size and shape, the presence of external and internal pockets must be thought out in advance, based on your needs and preferences.

Focus on the size of your wallet when thinking about pockets. They say that it is safest to store your wallet vertically in the middle of the bag in a specially made compartment, this way it is much less likely that a pickpocket will get to it. They usually cut the outside side surface or end with a sharpened coin and steal what they fumble inside. The second time cutting - inside - is already inconvenient.

Some people sew a special pocket for an umbrella with a zipper at the bottom of the bag or underneath it. This is also very convenient; the umbrella can be taken out separately from its compartment without opening anything from above.

If it is difficult for someone to understand the patterns presented above, they will in any case understand how to sew a bag (for example, from an old jacket), a “T-shirt”, a bag using noble materials - suede, leather. However, jeans and leatherette will also work, it all depends on what choices you have.

DIY backpack bag with pattern

You better know what shape of the bag you prefer, what you wear (or are going to wear) inside, what handles you prefer - short, long, wide, narrow, or maybe it is generally more convenient for you to wear a backpack - this way your hands will be free. I personally love backpacks, but not too small - you can’t fit a lot in there, and women’s backpacks on sale are mostly all very modest in size, so sometimes you have to sew it yourself if you want to do fine sewing.

Cute bright owl will a great gift for a girl or girl. The main thing in this backpack is the external decor, but you can take almost any pattern, it still won’t be visible. Looks great in casual youth clothing - T-shirts and jeans. By following the link, you can see several slightly different color options, as well as what the backpack bag looks like “on the body”.

Bag made from an old leather jacket

You can sew a new leather bag from the leather of an old jacket (or leather trousers) - there are probably some good unworn areas left on it. You might end up with something as handy as the one in the photo below.

It's a good idea to make some handles, which you can always make shorter or longer, or attach one long strap.

Think about the clasp in advance; if it is a zipper, then find one at home suitable color, if it is slightly larger than the hole, then this is not a problem - one end can be hidden inside the product. Think about what kind of buckles and magnetic clasps your future bag will have.

Choosing accessories for bags

Usually, when I throw away an item (clothes or a backpack, it doesn’t matter), I evaporate any accessories from it that may still be useful, and that’s why I keep a lot of these little things at home. This is very convenient - you don’t have to immediately run to the store; if you come up with the idea of using accessories, you can immediately apply them and figure out whether something from your “home supplies” will be suitable. It is necessary to take into account the color of the fittings; the finished product will not look very good if silver and silver fittings are used. golden color simultaneously. It's better to keep the style.

The clasp can be made with a magnet - there are some on sale and they are quite inexpensive. Or even on a cord that tightens the top. This looks good on beautiful evening bags made of silk or other fine fabrics with a slight sheen, embroidery or beading.

I usually draw the bag pattern myself - the shapes are very simple. I sometimes collected ideas for models and patterns from the Internet; I never used them directly, but you can take them as a basis, and little things (both proportions, or separate height and width) can always be changed or added as you wish.

A product sewn on a lining looks neater, so prepare a lining fabric that matches the color - matching or vice versa in a contrasting color. The main details of the bag pattern will need to be duplicated on the fabric for the inside. On the lining, it may not be amiss to have one or more pockets, with a zipper or open, for small items, cosmetics, and a phone. Pockets are always very convenient when you know what should be in which pocket.

Knitted and felt bags with felt

If you don't know how or don't want to knit, you can still create a knitted accessory yourself. Do you know what? From unnecessary knitwear- pullover, large or fine knit sweaters. Or use old bag for remaking into a new one using knitwear.

A handbag can be sewn from felt in the shape of a wolf, owl or other animal. No pattern is required here, the main thing is beautiful design outside.

There are a lot of large pictures here with examples of felt handbags. Various animals and birds - fox, eagle, pig, elephant, dog, rhinoceros and even bat. The basis of the pattern is a rectangle the size of a phone or other device, and the rest is decoration - it’s a matter of your imagination and possibilities in terms of choosing the color of felt, thread or fabric.

Idea to repurpose an old leather bag with knitting

Very interesting idea- remake an existing old bag made of thick leather - cut off the bottom and knit it from dense threads or yarn, for example, in a contrasting color. First make holes along the bottom, tie the knitted parts to them. I’ve been planning to implement this idea for a long time, I even have a bag for experiments, but I haven’t found the right yarn yet.

In my opinion, this is a “Spanish” idea for original bags made of thick leather with a knitted addition; it seemed interesting to me, naturally, for repeating with your own hands. So I took it into account.

The bottom can be tied very quickly using a thick cord. I would still knit the bottom part of a darker shape, otherwise it will be a washing problem very soon.

The shape of the pattern will largely depend on the rest of the piece. There is no need to worry about whether the sewing machine will sew through the leather part - we will make small holes with a special tool-punch and that’s it, you can fasten it. I think it’s still worth making a lining for such a handbag, especially if the knit is large.

Decorating a fabric handbag with beads and sequins

I would like to briefly touch on one more point. If you don’t like to bother with complex sewing of a bag according to a special pattern, or you already have a fabric bag (small!) that you would like to change, then there is also a way out. If there is no ready candidate for alteration, then sew a small handbag from fabric with your own hands. Or a clutch. It’s simple - the pattern is like this - two rectangles, a zipper or a button, or something else completely simple. Let the fabric be plain. For our purposes this is even better.

The trick here is that you can additionally decorate the bag with your own hands - the result will be a unique thing. In the end, buy the simplest one ready-made and try it. For this you will need beads, sequins, glass beads, rhinestones, threads, and a needle.

Decorating handbags and clutches with sequins and beads

Now I’ll show you what can happen. Don't be alarmed - these are three clutches, standing friend behind a friend. They are all interesting and all different.

A women's tweed travel bag is a necessary item when traveling. It is very roomy and practical to wear. Therefore, it is also good for everyday use in cool, windy seasons. A very interesting antique pattern with a sewing pattern, let's try to sew it with our own hands, the leather trim will look good.

These are some interesting multi-colored woolen knapsacks with embroidery, made by a craftswoman with her own hands, I spied at an exhibition of craftsmen self made. There were also cases for mobile phones, and even just roomy, but very light baskets and baskets made of felt for shopping trips to the store. Oddly enough, the hostess advised me to even wear potatoes in them! :) Personally, I wouldn’t do this - it’s a shame! And how light they turned out to be! Simply incredible.

It’s even easier to sew a spacious bag for the beach with your own hands, the patterns are very simple, and the sewing process is simple. The materials can be anything - from mesh to canvas, the shape and pattern can vary, but in any case the volume should be large. And you can decorate it in any way you like, even with seashells or painted with acrylic paints. Here you will find a bag-bag pattern, which you can use to sew a product made of fabric or even leather!

Another simple pattern for sewing a large, comfortable beach bag from a material (plain or patterned) that will fit all the necessary things. I don’t recommend making such a bag out of leather; bow folds along the top won’t look very good. The bag consists of an outer part and a lining, which can be the same or different, for example, a thinner fabric.

Examples of ready-made shopping bags, as well as handmade products with appliques from my good friend, a needlewoman, a jack of all trades, who lives in the city of Regensburg. This way you can decorate an existing item with your own hands, as well as sew a new one, inventing a decoration in the process.

Bags made from pieces of leather. Secrets

A few secrets of leather sewing:

1. Genuine leather is sold in pieces, which, due to their natural origin, may have various color defects, holes and unevenness. Therefore, when buying leather, you need to take a set of patterns in order to buy the exact number of pieces.

2. Parts of the product cannot be swept away, as traces of perforation remain on the skin. Therefore, before machine stitching, you need to fasten the parts together with pins perpendicular to the seam and sew directly over the pins.

3. Sewn parts should not be ripped open - needle marks remain. Therefore, you need to sew according to precise, proven patterns or first sew the item from cheap fabric, and then, taking into account all the changes made, sew it from leather.

4. After stitching, the seam allowances need to be laid out and tapped with a hammer so that they are “smoothed”; the seam allowances are glued to the product using special leather glue. If the leather is thin and soft, the allowances can be smoothed using a slightly heated iron through a slightly damp cloth. Before ironing the leather, you should try it on an unwanted piece.

5. If the model requires stitching along the seams, you should sew the stitch without any basting, and in order for it to lie flat, you should follow the foot of the sewing machine (it should go along the edge of the seam).

6. In order for the foot to move the skin well and not stretch it, you need to lubricate the skin in front of the foot with sunflower oil, which will ensure smooth advancement of the skin under the foot, and the remaining oil can be easily removed with a soft cloth.

7. The lining is sewn to leather products in the same way as to products made from ordinary fabric.

In this master class we will tell you all the sewing technology DIY men's bags made of genuine leather.

Make one like this men's bag(size 22x17x10) is not as difficult as it might seem. The product is made of crust and has two convenient compartments inside and a pocket for small items, located on the lid. If you are working withsoft skin, glue it in two layers on the walls, lid and jumper between the compartments. This way you can maintain the shape of the product.

First, let's make a pattern for the front and back parts of the bag and pocket. Mark the places of the buckle, pocket, and also calculate how far the flap will extend to the front edge of the bag.

Pocket on inside covers.

The pocket is made from any suitable leather. If the material is soft, glue it in two layers, stitch along the edge with nylon thread so that the pocket does not lose its shape. Install a magnetic clasp or button.

Front wall of the bag.

Place the pattern on the leather and trace it with an awl to leave a mark. Make two parts if you are going to glue thin leather. Sew along the top edge of the wall.

Attach the strap with a buckle to the front wall using a couple of threads.

Back wall and lid of the bag.

The same pattern will be used for the front and back of the bag and for the internal jumper. To apply it to the back layer of the skin, use a marker. When making the back wall, extend the outline of the pattern by 10cm (the width of the bag). Cover length 14.5 cm.

For the bag you will need two parts of each type.

To prevent the pocket from slipping while working, glue it along the contour, then stitch it to the product and fasten one piece at the top corners for strength.

On the outside we attach a clasp strap for the future bag. It will be 60cm long and the same width as the strap on which we previously installed the buckle. on his reverse side you need to glue the lining, and 20 cm of the product from the side of the rounded end needs to be stitched along the edge.

Glue the outer and inner parts together so that the pocket is on the lid under the protruding part of the strap. Measure 22 cm from the bottom of the bag and stitch the rest of the edge.

We cut out two parts of the jumpers and glue them together so that one is 0.5 cm smaller than the other. This will allow you to sew fewer layers of leather when assembling the bag.

Side walls.

Marking 2 parts for the side wall (length 64 cm, width 6 cm, margins 0.5 cm for seams). Let's cut out a couple of rectangles measuring 4x13 cm with rounded corners and glue them in the center of the finished parts for rigidity. Glue strips of lining 5 cm wide onto the finished parts.

We trim the rectangles around the edge.

We bend the edges at the side walls with pliers.

We glue both parts along the edge on both sides to the jumper, starting from the middle. And we trim off the excess edges that will protrude beyond the top of the jumper.

We will make the side seams by hand, since making them on a machine is quite difficult. To do this, we first pierce the leather with an awl, and then stitch the product according to the finished basting. Take blunt needles - with them it is easier to get into the finished hole and not damage the skin of the bag with new punctures.

Rub the finished seam along the end of the leather with transparent shoe wax.

Side half rings.

Each half ring will require a fastening piece. We cut it out, thread it into a half ring and glue it, folding it in half. You can install a holniten.

On each part, use an awl to outline the location of the future seam and glue the edge of the part onto the side wall of the bag, over the seam. Sew it on.

Sew on the front wall.

Starting from the middle of the front wall, glue it to the side, sew by hand, don't forget to make a few stitches at the end of the seam.

Sew on the back wall.

At the end of sewing, rub all open ends of the leather with wax.

Shoulder strap.

The optimal belt length is 160 cm, select the width according to your fittings. Glue the lining fabric from the inside and stitch. If you don't have a piece of leather for a one-piece belt, make one from several pieces fastened together.

To adjust the length of the belt, fasten one end of it to the middle jumper of the fastex, and pass the other through the ring and through the fastex.
