May 2 is a public holiday or. Holidays in May

The May holidays 2020 in Russia are a time that everyone is looking forward to. Weather, mood, weekend - all this allows you to finally escape away from the bustle of the city and enjoy the joys of spring. Vacation with family, barbecue, travel to the country or, even better, abroad.

How are we working and relaxing in May 2020?

In total, there will be 31 days in May 2020, of which :

  1. 16 workers
  2. 14 days off and holidays
  3. 1 shortened

On May 8, it received reduced status according to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation (Article 95). In government agencies, the working day will be shorter by 1-2 hours; in non-government institutions, the reduction will depend on the decision of the director or board.

May 1 - Spring and Labor Festival

The first of May in 2020 will last for 5 days. Such long May holidays in 2020 are due to the fact that in January the 4th and 5th fell on a Saturday, so the Russian government decided to move these weekends to May (January 4 to May 4 and January 5 to May 5, respectively).

May 9 - Victory Day

May 9, 2020 falls on a Saturday. This means that the official holiday will extend for 1 more day. That is, from 9 to 11 inclusive, Russians will be able to continue their May holiday.

2020, by presidential decree Russian Federation, was declared a year of memory and glory, since this year will mark the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

May holidays in schools and universities

Schoolchildren and students will rest on the same days as adults. This is another reason to go with the whole family to the country or on a trip.

May holidays 2020 official weekend calendar

2020 promises us that the weekend will be twice as long as usual. The first May holidays will cover as many as 5 days from the 1st to the 5th, and the second from the 9th to the 11th (3 days).

Working time standards

The May holidays for many Russian residents are, first of all, the first opportunity of the year to thoroughly get out of the city to their dachas, nature and barbecue. Others can’t wait until the beginning of May to spend a week abroad on the official weekend, taking an extra couple of days of vacation. In general, Russia is resting in all sorts of ways.

Whatever leisure option you choose these days, you should make sure in advance that your vacation schedule and the official weekends that the production calendar for 2019 has prepared for us coincide.

We will remind you today about how many May holidays there will be in 2019 and how the country is resting.

Schedule of May holidays in 2019

You can find out how we are celebrating May this year from the production calendar, approved annually by the government.

So how many May holidays are there in total in 2019? Officially, there are only two holidays - May 1 and May 9. But we will rest longer. May 1, May 2 and May 3- Labor Day and 2 weekends postponed from the New Year holidays. And then another Saturday and Sunday. It turns out 5 days off in a row.

And since February 23rd falls on a day off this year, the holiday was successfully moved to May 10th. We rest from 9 to 12 - 4 days off in a row.

Thus official weekends of the May holidays in 2019 from May 1 to May 5, and from May 9 to 12 separately.

And the answer to the question “how are we working during the May holidays 2019” will be as follows: you will have to work from Monday (May 6) to Wednesday (May 8). Just three working days.

Official holidays for schools for the May holidays in 2019 are similar. Schoolchildren rest according to the same schedule, so it’s quite possible to take them with you to the dacha for community service, because the beds won’t dig themselves up;)

How to relax in May 2019 is not an idle question. Traditionally, the Russian Ministry of Labor has prepared a series of days off for us during the May holidays, so we can plan our vacation in advance.
In 2019, the May weekend is not much shorter in length than the New Year holidays: on May holidays 2019 we rest from 1 to 5 and from 9 to 12.

April 30, Tuesday -shortened pre-holiday working day
May 1, Wednesday –Spring and Labor Festival, public holiday
May 2, Thursday -day off (rescheduled from Saturday 01/05/2019)
May 3, Friday -day off (rescheduled from Sunday 01/06/2019)
May 4, Saturday -day off
May 5, Sunday -day off

May 8, Wednesday –shortened pre-holiday day
May 9, Thursday -Victory Day, public holiday
May 10, Friday -day off (rescheduled from Saturday 02/23/2019)
May 11, Saturday -day off
May 12, Sunday -day off

Weekends for May 2019: calendar

We owe such a long holiday to two holidays at once.
May 1– International Day, International Workers’ Day, or simply May Day, Spring and Labor Day – names have changed, traditions have changed, but this holiday is firmly entrenched in the calendar.

May 9- Victory Day. A special day for Russians. There is no family that has not been touched by the deadly hand of the Great Patriotic War. And it is impossible to forget this. “If we forget the war, war will come again.”

These holidays, as the most important ones in the Soviet calendar, are associated with a family ritual that has almost become a thing of the past: before major celebrations (May or New Year), the whole family sat down to sign cards for family and friends. It was necessary to prepare in advance - to buy postcards at the post office, and it was important to catch the moment when there was a choice, and the most beautiful ones were not sold, to clarify the list of addressees.

And the whole evening the family, young and old, with short lines of an open letter, connected and strengthened the invisible threads of friendly and family unity. These pieces of cardboard, which seem so naive in our time, not only illustrate the holiday, but also reflect, sometimes quite bizarrely, the history of the state.

By the way, it’s a tradition to write to family and friends greeting cards seems to be experiencing its rebirth. And the May holidays 2019 are an excellent occasion to strengthen this tradition.

* Pre-holiday days, in which the duration of work is reduced by one hour.

Holidays and weekends in May 2020 in Russia are approved for 13 days. Including 2 public holidays: “Spring and Labor Holiday” (May 1) and “Victory Day” (May 9).

Production calendar for May 2020 and work schedule for working hours and weekends holidays for May 2020 officially approved by the government Russia.

Weekend for Spring and Labor Day - five days

The first of the May holidays is the good old May Day - in modern times called the Spring and Labor Festival. May 1, 2020 falls on Wednesday and we will rest until the very end of the week - Sunday, May 5.

The day before these short holidays - Tuesday, April 30, will be a pre-holiday working day. This means that the work shift will be one hour shorter than usual.

Why was there such a long weekend on May Day? It's all about transferring two non-working days from January 2020. The New Year holidays, which occupy the first eight days of January, inevitably fall on two (and sometimes even three) weekends. In 2020 this is Saturday and Sunday January 5-6.

Useful publications

New Year's holidays, of course, are subject to the same rules for transferring weekends that apply to any other holiday. Since two holiday days coincide with regular weekends, there are two non-working days left over. In recent years, the government has been using these reserve January weekends in other months of the year - where it makes the most sense from a calendar point of view.

Due to the January holidays non-working days become Thursday and Friday May 2-3, then regular weekends begin. This creates five non-working days at once at the beginning of May.

Victory Day weekend - four days

A similar story with the holiday of May 9th. It falls on Thursday in 2020, and as a result we will have a rest until the end of the week, May 12th.

Friday, May 10, 2020, will become a non-working day by moving the holiday from February 23. This time Defender of the Fatherland Day fell on a Saturday, therefore, similar to the January holidays, the holiday was superimposed on a day off. The government has decided not to move the non-working day to the next Monday in February. Instead, the holiday was moved to May.

As a result, we will get four days off in a row on Victory Day, and we will not have to work off a non-working Friday, May 10, on any of the May Saturdays. In 2020, we won’t have a single six-day week at all, of which there were three last year.

The Wednesday before Victory Day, May 8, will be a pre-holiday day with a work shift shortened by one hour.

Thus, in just the first 12 days of May we will work only three days and rest for nine. Of the 31 days in May, 18 days will be working days, 13 days will be days off, of which one will be shortened.

Where do the extra days off in May come from?

Officially, holidays were moved to May from New Year's holidays and from February 23. By the Decree of the Russian Federation (October 01, 2018) “On the postponement of holidays in 2020”, it was decided to postpone the following days to May:

That’s why in May 2020 there were so many holidays when you don’t have to go to work.

History of the May holiday in Russia: May 1

The days off for the May holidays have a lot of history behind them. The first official, but untransferred holiday is May 1, known to everyone from a very young age - the Holiday of Besny and Labor. Celebrated in our country since the establishment of the socialist regime and the creation of the Soviet Union. It is connected not only with the fact that in many regions of the homeland the long-awaited warmth is coming after the winter cold, but also with a new, although not very long, working period, this the second name Labor Day begins.

In May 2020 in Russia, the vast majority of residents begin their summer season by planting seedlings in specially prepared greenhouses, planting potatoes and other seasonal work, The majority of which is associated with the climatic zone.

Useful publications

During the existence of the Soviet Union in May 2020, large-scale demonstrations were held in Russia on the streets, with the help of which citizens showed their respect for the work carried out One of them is work and honest work. The first forays into nature, including for the purpose of enjoying the beauty and, accordingly, relaxation during that period were called Maydays.

History of the May holiday in Russia: May 9

In May, Russia celebrates another holiday that brings not only joy, but also sorrow; this is May 9 - Victory Day. There is not a single family in our country that was not affected by the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The losses our Motherland has suffered are irreparable.

It’s strange and at the same time sad to read or watch on TV when you learn that in history lessons in schools in the USA and Europe, America is proclaimed the winner of world fascism. But it doesn’t make me smile at all when older, middle-aged European politicians say this.

For the first time, May 9 was celebrated directly on this significant day in 1945. A grandiose ceremony was given in the capital festive fireworks. But they celebrated for only three years.

By order of I. Stalin, since 1948, the allocation of money for special events stopped, the day ceased to be a day off, it was necessary to restore the country destroyed by the war.

As public holiday The tradition of celebrating Victory Day on May 9 was resumed in 1965 and continues to this day. And this year, 2020, we will solemnly celebrate this day and remember all those who gave their lives for the victory over fascism.

Where to go on the May weekend in 2020

Most of our fellow citizens perceive unexpected weekends as a favorable time for gardening work. The fact is that the May holidays of 2020 traditionally coincide with the first plantings. Representatives of the older generation are purchasing seedlings and seeds - they will spend five days at the dacha, landscaping their plots. Young people prefer barbecues and outdoor activities. But there are other options:

· Participate in a large-scale demonstration.

· Go to a museum or theatrical performance with your children.

· Take a tent and camping equipment and go hiking.

· Spend a few days at the seaside or at a ski resort.

· Stay at home and engage in self-development.

· Go to visit relatives whom you have not seen for a long time.

Useful publications

In recent years, people have been eager to travel to the sea coast and choose mainly domestic resorts. At the end of spring the high season starts, and you can focus on Crimea, Stavropol and Krasnodar region. A good option It will be Sochi - the water there will already warm up, and the resort fee will not hit your pocket too much.

If you write an application, taking three more days at your own expense, you can leave the country. It will be even warmer in Turkey and Tunisia, and the cost of travel packages will pleasantly surprise you. Fans of active recreation should pay attention to Karelia and remote mountain regions. Spring in the mountains is an unforgettable sight. All that remains is to plan your schedule in advance.
