Ritual, Christmas doll Goat. Slavic Christmas goat doll Folk goat doll in literature

Traditional Russian rag doll.

Hello, my dears!

Today we will talk about the ritual, Christmas doll Goat.

I'll start from afar and try to be brief.

Christmastide- Old Church Slavonic word meaning saints, holidays. The plural indicates that the holiday lasts not one day, but several - 12 days from Christmas to Epiphany. Christmas time is a church holiday, Orthodox holiday. The Church celebrates the Nativity of Christ on these holy days. But during this period, pagan rituals are still taking place among the people - such as fortune-telling, caroling, dressing up... Why? The fact is that before the adoption of Christianity on these holy days, our ancestors celebrated, glorified Kolyada.

Kolyada- from the diminutive word “kolo”, meaning the Baby Sun. This deity is born after the night of the winter solstice (solstice). And this newborn sun Kolyada opens the new year, symbolizing the Sun of the next year. The solar calendar of our ancestors is tied to astronomical events - solstices (solstice) and equinoxes. These phenomena are important for all nature and were the main holidays of Rus' - 4 great solar holidays - Kolyada, Yarilo, Kupalo, Svetovit. Or - Kolyada, Yaro, Krasnaya Gora, Ovsen (Small and Great).

The Sun Deity has four ages associated with the four seasons - winter, spring, summer, autumn:

Sun-baby Kolyada- born after the Winter Solstice Night.

Sun-youth Yarilo– grows stronger at the spring equinox.

Sun-husband Kupala- the mighty summer sun.

Sun-old man Svetovit– begins to fade after the autumn equinox and dies before the night of the winter solstice .

Church holiday The Nativity of Christ, according to the time of its celebration, was superimposed on pagan holiday Kolyada, and this was done for a softer transition of the people from paganism to Orthodoxy. As I wrote earlier in my works, among the people there existed and still exists such a concept and phenomenon as Dual Belief - among the Slavic peoples, Christmas is still combined with Kolyada.

One of the features of the Kolyada celebration was Caroling.

Rituals of Caroling came to us from ancient times, when carolers acted as the spirits of ancestors, visiting their descendants and bringing the guarantee of a fruitful year, the offspring of livestock and general well-being . There was a belief that the carolers' rounds expelled the dark force from the village and protected against diseases. Carolers walked around the courtyards and sang special songs - carols (ovsenki, shchedrovki, grapes), in which they glorified Kolyada and wished the owners of the house all the best. And in order to receive a blessing, it was necessary to please the carolers, which they took advantage of, cheerfully demanding gifts and gifts. This was considered something like a gift for caroling. They playfully predicted ruin for the stingy. At the same time, gifts could be anything. Typically, carolers were given ritual cookies, bagels, cows, kozulki, pies and loaves, the so-called symbols of fertility. As a result, the ritual of caroling consisted of a kind of exchange of gifts, gift for gift. The carolers “gave” prosperity to the peasant house for the whole year, and the owners gave them kozulki, beer, and money. For the ancient Slavs, the arrival of carolers was perceived as a return from another world of deceased ancestors to the homes of their descendants. Therefore, gifting them served as something of a sacrifice in the hope of help and protection in the coming year. The ritual of caroling was fun, with laughter, dancing, full glasses and a real feeling of celebration. The gifts that young people received for ritual songs and dances went to the common table. The main attribute of Caroling was the mummers.

Mummers. For the holiday, boys and girls dressed up as scarecrows. Dressing up meant hide your true face, not be recognized, because under the masks and guises it was not the neighbor boys or girls who were hiding, but the souls of dead ancestors. They dressed up in every possible way: they threw their hair forward; they wrapped their heads in a scarf; they pulled a long-haired fur hat low over their eyes; they let grass and washcloth fall on their faces; They painted themselves beyond recognition - they inked their faces with soot, tar, smeared them with beets, whitewash, and sprinkled them with flour.

The mummers were usually accompanied by a goat, but not a real one, but a mischievous and cheerful young man dressed in a casing. His face was smeared with soot, and he had a fur hat on his head, to which were attached horns made of straw. The goat was in charge actor(or muzzle ). Since ancient times, a goat has been considered a human nurse; the custom of stroking a goat’s fur at Christmas time means a satisfying life in the coming year. . The Slavs believed that the presence of this animal in the yard repels dark forces, brings fertility, a good harvest, joy and prosperity.

In some villages, the mummer did not portray a goat, but they took a large wooden stick (it could be a cross on which bells and ribbons were attached) and on top of it they attached a goat’s face made of fur, bast or straw and walked around the courtyards with it.

And finally, we come to our Christmas Goat doll, and I can safely conclude: there was no Goat doll before, they didn’t make it, much less give it to each other with different wishes (I thus refute all Internet versions on this topic).

The Goat doll (elbow-sized) is a new, modern folk doll, invented by craftswomen today. This will be discussed further. On the Internet, some craftswomen call the Goat doll a ritual one, others a protective one. And this confusion occurred, in my opinion, due to the fact that this doll was invented based on the rituals of Caroling, but they make it without being tied to a specific time (calendar holiday dates) and give it (sell-buy) with wishes for all the good. Therefore, it can rightfully be called a doll-amulet. Make a Goat out of different materials- fabric, bast, yarn, straw... They come up with different options- with a muzzle and a beard, with pigtails-horns, in a sundress and without. Decorate with bells, bells, ribbons and bows. Each craftswoman makes her own goat, a unique and bright doll of joy and fun.

From all of the above, we can safely draw up the main qualities of the Goat doll: it scares away dark forces, brings fertility, a good harvest, and prosperity. Amulet good mood- the goat is always cheerful, always carefree. Gives fun, joy, enthusiasm and celebration, drives away melancholy and sadness from the heart. Symbolizes wealth and health. Gives vital energy, instills good spirits.

Forecast for 2015 from Nadyushka(without looking into all the numerous Chinese horoscopes) I affirm: The year for all Slavs will be cheerful, at the same time playful and sharp in its manifestation - don’t yawn. And paradoxes will occur: you will think that in front of you is a Goat, but in fact it is a mummer. And vice versa - you will be sure that in front of you is a mummer, but in fact it will be a Goat (or Goat) with all their manifestations and surprises. Therefore, always have cabbage with you and learn to run fast.

Next time I will give you material about the traditional doll Ten Hands and her older sister Filippovka.

Goodbye! See you on air 01/27/15

The Goat ritual doll is a symbol of vitality. It is obligatory in the ritual of Christmas caroling (mummers going around the courtyards). Among the Slavs, it is also a symbol of fertility, and the Goat is also an amulet of good mood.

They dressed the Goat doll in festive elegant clothes and presented her with ritual objects: bells, pipes, bells, wooden beads, earrings, a horseshoe for good luck, cereal grains in bags, gifts, coins.

The bast was bought at a hardware store and washed. The length of the bast brush was 50 cm, folded in half determined the size of the doll (without horns) 25 cm. The entire doll was 48 cm. At least four brushes were used. There is only bast in the brushes on top, there is rubbish inside. Therefore, buy at least 5 brushes for the Goat doll. It's better to have some left than not enough. The doll is made on a cross of 28 cm and 22 cm.

1 We make blanks from bast for the muzzle and body, for horns, for hands, ears, and beard. We select a beautiful flap for a dress 22x36 cm. We select and determine whether to braid or wrap and with what thread? I immediately decided that my Goat’s horns would be strong, stick up, and covered in red braiding. Let's prepare various ritual items for the Goat.

2 We wrap (or braid) the blank for the horns with colored threads (of your choice) or ribbons.

3 Fold the antlers in half.

4 Let's make a blank for the ears 14 cm. Cut the edges diagonally.

5 We attach the horns folded in half to a 28 cm stick.

6 Attach the ears to the base of the horns. For strength, I also wrapped the top of the threads with electrical tape.

7 Place the hand stick in the middle of the bast workpiece, secure it at the ends and in the middle.

8 We select beads for the neck and belt.

9 We place the fixed horns and ears inside the blank for the body, mark the neck and immediately attach the arms, bandage them crosswise, tightly.

10 Fold the dress flap in half and try it on.

11 We make a cut along the sleeve line and a fairly deep neckline. Those who prefer only to tear the fabric, therefore tear.

12 Carefully put on the dress.

13 We fasten the back of the skirt at the front.

14 We place the front part of the skirt behind the back (if desired, and especially if the fabric is soft, you can fold it in from the side edges, so the skirt will have better shape). The sleeves can be folded inward and secured with ribbons.

15 We put on the beard (we decide on its length), fasten it on top, and then with a belt on which we hang ritual objects. We tie bright ribbons on the horns and hands. We put some beads around the neck, others hang on the belt.

The ritual doll Goat wishes everyone good spirits, inexhaustible energy of life, good harvests in all fertile fields. And everyone will live in prosperity, peace and joy!

If you suddenly feel sad,

Don't give in to blues!

Banish melancholy with a ringing sound!

One of the ritual dolls is the Christmas doll “Goat - Fun”. A doll of joy and fun. Amulet of good mood. Symbol of wealth, bountiful harvest, health. “Goat” is always cheerful and carefree. She helps good people It's more fun to see the world. She is like a young, playful, slightly stubborn, perky girl. Traditionally, “Goat” wakes up a woman, gives her strength, a cheerful mood, cheerfulness and drives away melancholy and sadness from the heart. And also a wonderful image New Year's holiday and fun. The “Goat” doll is made at Christmas time, when they celebrate the transition to the new year. It helps to lay down images of a new life in which our desires come true. They dressed the “Goat” in bright clothes and decorated them with bells, beads, earrings, amulets: a pipe, a tambourine, a wreath of prosperity, bags of grain and herbs. If the “Goat” comes to you at Christmas time, the year will be cheerful and joyful.

To make the “Veselukha Goat” doll you need:

  1. Linen twine;
  2. Red tape 5 mm - 2.5 meters;
  3. Plain chintz for an apron 8x35 cm, colored for a dress 10x35 cm, white or colored for an apron 3x10 cm;
  4. Multi-colored beads, amulets: bell, wreath of prosperity, bags of grain and herbs
  5. Stick with stand

Step 1: We wind linen twine vertically onto A-4 cardboard. (How many threads? - it depends on you, “Goat” is thin or fat, choose for yourself). Cut the twine in the center.

Step 2: We tie the workpiece with twine 80 cm long. We do not cut off the twine thread, since we work with one thread until the work is completed. We tie a red ribbon on top of the thread.

Step 3: Making the head of a “Goat”.
Fold the body blank in half and tie it at 1cm. from the bend forming the muzzle of a goat.

Step 4: We lower the muzzle of the “Goat” down, under the head, 2 cm above the muzzle, we tie a thread tightly, forming the goat’s head.

Step 5: Making ears.
We take 9 threads from both sides of the head and weave two braids of 4 cm each. We bend the braids inward and tie them with the same thread.

Step 6: Making horns.
We take 30 threads in the center of the head and weave two tight braids.

Step 7: Tilt the “Goat’s” head down from the braid by 2 cm and tie it with the same thread to form a neck.

Step 8: Making hands.
Wind a string of twine horizontally onto A-4 size cardboard and cut it in the center.

Step 9: Spread the torso and insert the arms. We tie it crosswise on the chest with the same thread.

Step 10: Preparing a pattern for clothes
Fold the fabric in half and cut out an armhole for the head in the middle of the fold again. We put on the dress and apron through the horns.

Step 11: Weave a belt from ribbons or threads of different colors (a braid of three or five ribbons). We gird the goat with a belt with bells and amulets. We tie a beard around the neck, beads with a bell, we intertwine the horns with a red thin ribbon crosswise, and tie bows.

Our Goat is ready!

The goat can become a good gift on New Year, but if you show a little imagination, it will become a real interior decoration.

We wish you creative success!

Have a cozy and warm evening to all guests of my page!

I present to you the MK of the wonderful Slavic ritual doll “Goat”. This is an amazing amulet of fertility and good mood.

What we need for the doll:

Multi-colored bright fabrics

Red threads

Beads and bells

Let's begin!

First, let's start shaping the muzzle. We will make 1 small braid from jute (6 ropes, each 20 cm long we will weave into a tight braid) - these are the ears. Next, take 15 ropes 40 cm long and weave a tight braid - horns. And let's take 21 ropes, each 55 cm long, and tie them with jute in the middle - this is the future muzzle.

Take a small pigtail-ears, tie it with a figure eight

and put it between the ropes in the head, a little higher we put the horns - a large braid folded in the middle. We fix the muzzle with jute from below - we form a throat.

Now about the fabrics.

Here are the pieces and their sizes:

15 x 30cm - a piece of fabric for the base-body, its color is not important, since it is located inside, is not visible and serves as a supporting column (I have white);

16 x 16cm - a piece of white fabric for a Goat shirt;

17 x 45cm - a piece of colored fabric for the skirt;

27 x 27cm - a piece of colored fabric for the petticoat;

10 x 10cm - 2 pieces of fabric for the chest. Goat is a symbol of fertility;

8 x 9cm - a piece of fabric for an apron

Now let's take the muzzle. We mark and spread the ropes on the sides. We braid braids, I have 12 ropes. We looked, admired and secured the handles at the top so that they would not get in the way for now. I secured it with a hair tie.

Our piece of base fabric (15x30cm) is wrapped around the remaining ropes. They wound it up and tied it tightly with thread.

Let's take care of the hands and the shirt. Let's take a piece of white fabric. Let's make a cut from the corner to the center. The slit in the shirt will give the Goat a smell from behind.

Next, we try on the shirt for the Goat. We rewind the cuffs with scarlet thread and turn them away. We wrap the hooves to fit the size of the cuffs with jute and cut off the excess. Before working on the skirts, we raise our hands up and fix them.

and cover it with another corner,

at the same time beautiful drawing stays inside

The fabric on my face and back is almost the same!

And we see the wrong side.

We collect all 4 corners of the square-skirt and pull it tightly with a rope directly under the chest. Next, in any of the four slits that have formed, carefully turn the skirt outward with the beautiful side out.

We put on an apron - a piece of fabric 17x45cm.

At the bottom it can be fringed or embroidered. We take the fabric, gather it around the Goat’s body, above the chest, and tightly tighten it with thread.

We tie on an apron.

Now let's decorate the Goat!

The Goat must have earrings - just like in life:) It is best if the beads are wooden, natural, or knitted.

Bells are a mandatory decoration for the Goat. They say that to acquire magical properties you need seven of them. Then the magical ringing perfectly dispels despondency and brings joy into the house.

You definitely need to ring the doll - this ritual action will help you relate to problems more easily and be more cheerful.

Braids from satin ribbons I use them as a head decoration and a belt.

She twisted the horns with scarlet thread.

You can throw a shawl over the Goat's shoulders.

The amulet is ready!

Create and be happy!
