Symbolism

Thanks to its height, the giraffe has become a symbol of greatness, honor, harmony, intelligence and foresight. Many use it as a talisman of happiness, good luck and prosperity. In the East, for example, giving a figurine of a giraffe expresses deepest gratitude and respect for a person.

This time we will try to collect origami paper giraffe. The model has an increased level of complexity, but can be performed by any lover of Japanese art by following detailed instructions.

Once you learn how to fold a giraffe, you will understand how to make a dragon or a unicorn. Many beautiful models have a similar base. If you master the proposed technique, it will be easier further.

The paper giraffe looks graceful and majestic. You will be proud of your craft if you can handle all sorts of folds, sides and corners.

To work you will need:

  • thick paper of any color, square shape (ideal sheet size is 20x20 cm, but another one is possible);
  • positive attitude and 15 minutes of free time.

Origami paper giraffe: step-by-step instructions

Take a square sheet of paper and mark diagonal lines on it, bending it in half so that the opposite corners meet. Repeat in the other direction. Draw horizontal and vertical lines. Flatten the paper and place it in front of you in a diamond shape.

Now we fold the basic “Double Square” shape. Read in detail about the main basic forms. Tuck the left corner inward along the vertical fold. Do the same on the right side, ironing the folds well. You will get a double rhombus.

Place the workpiece in front of you so that the free ends are at the bottom. Form a triangle with the apex pointing downwards by folding the outer sides towards the center. Straighten it again.

Tuck the sides inward along the fold lines. Lift the bottom end up. It will turn out like this.

Turn the shape over, changing the front and back sides. Repeat the steps by folding the sides into a triangle and bending the corners inward. The result was a two-layer elongated rhombus.

The most crucial moment has come. Fold the base for the future giraffe using the origami technique. To do this, expand the resulting figure so that it looks like a four-pointed star. All lines should be clearly visible.

Press the center point inward where the vertical, diagonal, and horizontal folds intersect. Slide the sheet inside along a horizontal line to make it look like a boat, with triangles visible at the bottom and top.

Point these triangles downwards, bending the shape along the top line. Fix the side inner lines of the triangles. One will remain on the front side, the other on the back. The result will be a design as in the photo.

Giraffe legs and neck

The two side ends will become the giraffe's legs and neck. Let's start with the neck and front legs. They are on the same line. Push the right end inward and lift up. If you look from the side, you will see that it consists of two halves folded together. Place them right side out.

Bring the upper sides of the resulting diamond to the center. Direct the resulting details along the giraffe's body, making the middle the outer contour of the neck and front legs.

Form the giraffe's hind legs by bending the other end of the piece diagonally. Iron the fold well in both directions. Focusing on it, turn the part inside out. The inside will become the outside.

Head

Form the head where the neck ends. Step back about 3 cm from the sharp tip and make an oblique fold in both directions. Along the bend, bend the end inward to create a protruding angle, approximately 90 degrees or a little more.

Print Thanks, great lesson +1

Giraffe is one of the animals that has a long neck. If you print out the craft template, then in a short time such a cute creature will be standing on your table. It does not have many details, which allows you to make a giraffe even with small children. Of course, separate the scissor steps for yourself. After all, you should carefully work out all the small details. Also work out each line and glue the body so that it looks like a cube. But you can instruct your baby to glue on a long spotted neck with a head and a small tail on the back side.

Required materials:

Step by step photo lesson:

From the printed sheet we cut out all the necessary details to create a three-dimensional craft in the form of a giraffe with a long neck. In total, you should get three main parts - a body in the form of a cube, a head with a long neck and a small tail.

We bend the body of the future giraffe along all lines.

Apply glue to the white areas of the workpiece and glue all sides together to create a square body.

Now let’s add a detail with a long neck and head to the finished body. Glue it at the top to one of the side edges.

Our giraffe is almost ready. It's just missing one small detail - a tail.

Bend the tail in half along the line. Apply glue to the white area. We lean it against the body and let it dry.

That's it for our cute giraffe printable template! Place the finished craft on the table and decorate with miniature flowers or palm trees.

Stylized original paper giraffes will be a wonderful decor for a children's room. You can create them at absolutely any height. Such crafts look especially good in compositions of several pieces. It is also desirable that their height and dimensions be different. The technique for creating them is very simple; even a child can do the entire process of making them!

List of required tools and materials:

  • yellow and brown colored paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue stick;
  • black marker or felt-tip pen;
  • simple pencil;
  • a strip of corrugated paper in a light green shade.

How to make giraffes out of paper

Step 1. We will make small giraffes with a height of approximately 15-20 cm. Cut a sheet of yellow paper into four even parts.

Step 2. Roll any of the blanks into a bag. Apply a little glue to the tip of the leaf and fix the structure.

Step 3. Using scissors, stabilize the cone by cutting off the bottom corner of the leaf.

Step 4. We create spots from brown paper. Cut a strip 10-15 mm wide from the sheet. Next, fold it 3-4 times and cut out irregularly shaped spots.

In the same way we create smaller blanks. We will attach them to the top of the cone, and the larger parts to the bottom.

Step 5. Cover the yellow base with spots.

Step 6. On a piece of yellow paper, using a simple pencil, draw a sketch of a funny giraffe’s face. We outline the sketch with a black marker or felt-tip pen. We cut out the workpiece, departing 2-3 mm from its contour.

Step 7. Apply glue to the back of the part and attach it to the top of the cone.

Step 8. Create the giraffe's tail from yellow paper. There should be a small tassel at the tip of the ponytail; it needs to be created from brown paper. We attach the tail blank to the back of the craft.
