Description of knitting potholders.

We will start knitting potholders from the center. We make an amigurumi ring and put 12 double crochets (dc) into it. Then we knit in a spiral, that is, we move to the next row without connecting the beginning and end of this row.

We knit 2 dc in each loop.

In each next row we knit 2 dc in the loop between the two dcs, and 1 dc in the remaining loops. Having knitted to the required width (I got 8 rows), we make a loop of 8-10 air loops (VP) between two dcs (you can take absolutely any number of air loops, make sure that the loop becomes comfortable).

We make the binding approximately evenly, that is: when you have tied about half of it, count the loops and decide whether everything works out exactly. If not (as it happened for me), then we knit the DC not in the second, but in the third or in each loop, depending on the circumstances. So we knit up to our loop. We tie it with a sc so that it is not thick, but evenly beautiful. (I got 15 sc). We connect the row, tighten the loop tightly, cut the thread, hide the tip.

You can decorate the potholders by knitting a chain of air loops with a thread of a different color, attaching it to the main fabric. See how to do this in the photo below.

Here are some more adorable oven mitts from the internet. Connected in exactly the same way. Added eyes, flowers, beads, buttons, leaves and other decorative elements. Some are without strapping, others are strapped. Craftswomen, get creative! When making potholders, you can let go of your imagination. Potholders knitted in this way can also be used as hot mats.

In the next version of the potholder we use threads of three colors: orange, black or dark brown and red for the tongue. When tying, we form the ears.

Hot stand

I took needlework thread, hook number 4. If we knit a potholder, we take the yarn in 2 - 3 threads. For a hot stand, it is better to take stiff yarn, cord, or braid and a larger hook.

We will knit in the round. We use air loops, single crochet and half single crochet.

First we knit a ring, by which we will then hang it.

Hamburger potholder

You will need: leftover yarn in beige, green, brown, yellow, red and light green colors, hook number 4.

Using a beige thread, tie a chain of 20 VPs and then knit according to the pattern from bottom to top.

Then use red and light green thread to tie the parts in half columns on the finished potholder, as shown in the photo.

Tie the entire potholder with a beige thread in one row of SC, tie a loop of 20 VP at the top. and tie it with one row of sc.

Ideas from the Internet

Multi-colored potholder sunflower.

Colors: brown, yellow, green, white.

Description of the potholder “Sun”

We crochet a bright yellow circle and embroider eyes, cheeks, and mouth on it.
We make the bangs and rays from pieces of yarn of the same length. To do this, we crochet the middle of the segment a row below and pass the ends into it. For the rays, use threads of three colors.

Kitchen hand-made is especially popular these days. Unusual decorative elements created for the kitchen with your own hands are not only an original interior decoration, but also a chance for the needlewoman to fully express her imagination and creativity. The most common handicraft items for the kitchen, which you can easily make with your own hands, are potholders. There are plenty of methods and materials from which kitchen potholders are made, but crocheted products look especially cute and homey.

Moreover, in the process of knitting, the needlewoman improves her crocheting skills, and also develops her creativity, inventing new patterns and models. And one more advantage of crocheted oven mitts is that they don’t require a lot of yarn to make; you can use unused leftover threads from previous knittings.

Crocheting oven mitts is a great way for beginners to get acquainted with all the possibilities of crochet. As a rule, for beginning craftswomen, a potholder is the springboard from which their journey into the world of crochet needlework starts.

Crocheting a potholder yourself is not so easy. difficult task, as it may initially seem. Especially if you have little experience in this matter. But, even if you don’t have the skills to work with a crochet hook, don’t despair - thanks to step by step instructions and the detailed diagrams presented in this article, any student will master the skill of crocheting potholders in the shortest possible time.

For beginners in knitting, we recommend that you practice making the simplest tacks in the shape of a square, made in fillet technique. Those who are already familiar with the basics of crocheting will enjoy master classes on knitting a round potholder with a floral pattern, a potholder in the shape of a juicy watermelon slice, as well as an unusual triangular potholder decorated with berries and leaves.

Yellow-brown potholder made using chain knitting technique

If the fabric of the previous potholder is slightly translucent due to the pattern, as a result of which it will not always be able to protect the housewife’s hands from hot kitchen utensils, then such a dense potholder, knitted from two round motifs with strong threads, is an ideal assistant in household. It performs its functions 100%, moreover, it pleases the eye with its original floral pattern.

There is no need to cut the thread; we immediately begin knitting loops for hanging. We collect the flail. from 15 air pet., close it into a ring using the connection. Art. with a tack cloth, we tie it with non-woven or PS posts. We fasten the thread in secret loops and cut it off.

Tack Finish:
We embroider watermelon “seeds” with brown or black thread, in the 4th-fourth row we make 5, in the seventh – 8 stitches. In order for the thread not to be visible when moving from one stitch to another, you need to pull it extremely carefully inside the s/n columns so that it is not visible either from the front side or from the back.

Neat triangle potholder with berries and leaves

Needlewomen are so skilled in crocheting potholders that some of them can be called real works of art without undue modesty. For example, the unusual triangle potholder shown in the photo below.

If you have become proficient in knitting standard square and round potholders, it’s time to start knitting and creating such an original kitchen accessory.

Knitting pattern:

Work progress.

The most interesting thing is that for our triangle you need to knit a regular square with a light openwork pattern. We knit a flail with a thread of the main color. at 8 air pet., close in the circle SS.
Row No. 1: 3 air. pet. lifting, 2 tbsp. s/n in a circle from VP, 3 VP, rapport 4 times: “3 tbsp. s/n in a circle, 3 VP. SS. Next, we continue knitting according to the pattern until the fabric reaches the right size. We fold the resulting square in the order shown on the pattern. We tie the folded triangle with picot arches according to the above tying pattern.

We knit a leaf:
We collect a flail with a green thread. from 16 air. pet. (15 VP + 1 VP), knit in forward and reverse direction st. b/n 5 rows. We cut off the thread.

Knitting a berry:
We collect a flail with a red thread. for 4 air pet., close in a circle with a connecting column.

Potholder Sunflower

We knit the front side using the same principle. Only now we add another yellow thread to create a variegated surface.

When the second circle is knitted, you need to take both parts and connect them along the edge to each other using two yellow threads (in 2 threads) with single crochets.

The sunflower is almost ready, there are still petals left. The petals are knitted in the round. To do this, we knit with a yellow thread in one loop - 2 dc, 1 dc2h, 2 dc. Having skipped one stitch, fasten it in the next one. We knit this way along the entire edge. All that remains is to knit a loop by which you can hang the sunflower. To do this, between the petals you need to knit a chain of 20 VPs and then tie it with an RLS and secure it well. The sunflower is ready!

Potholder Sunflower video master class

Now we knit the head. We start knitting from the edge of the circle. We knit 8 sc, turning over, we knit another 8 sc. Turn it over again and knit 6 sc, making one decrease on each side, turn it over and make 2 more decreases along the edges. The thread was secured.

Now we make the binding and loop. We start on the opposite side of the ladybug's head. We tie the sc in a circle, and, having knitted in a circle, we make a loop of 10-15 VP. Knit six spots, each of which has three circular rows (based on the principle of knitting the base of a potholder). Sew on circles and make eyes from either beads or white yarn. Tack Ladybug ready!

Potholder Peacock

You will need:

  • threads of different colors;
  • hook;
  • sequin;
  • thread;
  • needle.

Description

Torso

The Peacock potholder starts with knitting the warp. Cast on a chain of 3 VPs.

1 rub. – knit 7 PS in a circle.
2 r. – we make increases (17 dc).
3 r. – 37 SSN.
4 rub. – 50 SSN.

Tail

The peacock is a creature with a gorgeous tail! Therefore, try to choose the threads to reflect the beauty of the tail. We knit an odd number of fans. They are knitted by knitting several DCs into one loop. We knit 4-5 rows different colors. In each row we increase the number of loops in the fans.

We tie it with the same thread that was used to tie the body.

Crocheting cute potholders is quick and easy. At first glance, many examples of such products look complex, but this is a misconception! Even a novice needlewoman can knit potholders for the kitchen with her own hands from simple loops and posts. Now we’ll learn in detail how to knit these cute little things and bring even more warmth and comfort to your home.

Potholder "Flower"

So, for our potholder we take yarn of three colors, for example, orange, purple, pink. You can choose your own color combination, the brighter the more interesting. And then we follow the instructions:

We collect 9 air loops and close them into a ring.

Now we knit 18 single crochets.

Let's start knitting petals. In order for them to turn out beautiful and even, we cast on 23 air loops, and then close the knitting in the same place where the chain began. This will create the first petal.

We knit one double crochet stitch before knitting a new petal. And again you need to cast on a chain of 23 loops. In total we should have 9 petals.

Fifth row - for each petal 12 double crochets, from the central loop of the petal we make 3 double crochets and 12 double crochets.

It's time to change the thread and continue knitting with a different color.

Next time the thread changes in rows 8 and 9, i.e. we start knitting with the third color.

We will get curled flower petals, it looks especially beautiful. To connect the petals, we tie the entire work in a circle.

We turn the resulting flower over and knit it in reverse side. On each petal there are 15 double crochet stitches. Let the tying begin on the upper central part of the petal, thanks to this, when completing the tying, you will already have a place ready for tying a loop.

We finish tying with a small loop.

Crocheting this potholder will take you very little time, you can make a pair for it and hang it symmetrically in the kitchen - you’ll get a very cute duet!

Spiral potholder

This incredibly cute pot holder is super easy to make. The whole principle of its creation is in the sequence of knitting in a single circular row with four colors at once. The only difficulty: too much time is spent putting markers on and taking them off. That is, while you are knitting in one color, working loops of other colors are open. To prevent them from unraveling, you need to thread the blocking marker each time and, accordingly, remove it later. But there is simply no other way to knit spiral potholders.

However, the thing itself is small, so you can “suffer” a little. And if your friends know how to appreciate such handmade beauty, they will clearly applaud your skill, because not everyone can knit such a pattern. At least until he finds out all the secrets that you will now become acquainted with.

Rings (for crocheting) can serve as markers; they are the easiest to work with. But you can get by with the usual pins or paper clips.

Such potholders are knitted with your own hands using cotton yarn, because it holds its shape remarkably well, does not slip in your hands, and retains its color for a very long time (and this is very important for an item that will often be washed).

Materials and tools:

  • 100% cotton yarn (5 adjacent colors, 200 m / 100 g)
  • 4 markers (rings, pins, paper clips)
  • Crochet hook No. 4

The approximate size of the potholder is 21 cm in diameter.

Let's designate the colors: A - red, B - brick/copper, C - bright orange, D - yellow, E - white/beige.

We use the following abbreviations:

VP - air loop

SBN - double crochet

CH - double crochet

PSN - half double crochet

CC - connecting post

Description of knitting

We knit both the front and back sides of the potholder in the same way.

We make a magic ring with red thread. We knit a ring in color A (1 ch, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc). Remove the loop from the hook and put a marker on it. We attach a new thread, repeat knitting according to the same principle (and so on with each new color).

First row. Remove the marker. With color A we work in columns of color B: 2 dc from one loop, 1 dc in the next loop. We repeat each color in a circle. Makes 6 dc in all colors.

Second row. Color A: 2 Dc from one loop, 1 Dc. And so we knit 3 times, repeating with each color. Makes 9 dc in each color.

Third row. Color A: 2 Dc from one loop, 2 Dc. Three times, with each color in a circle. Makes 12 dc in each color.

Fourth row. A: 2 Dn, 3 Dn -//-, it turns out 15 Dn.

Fifth row. A: 2 Dc, 4 Dc. -//-, it turns out 18 Dc.

Sixth row. A: 2 Dc, 5 Dc. -//-, will come out - 21 Sn.

Seventh row. A: 2 Dc, 6 Dc. -//-, will come out - 24 Sn.

Eighth row. Continue with color D for rounding: 3 hdc, 2 sc. Tighten and cut the thread.

Color C: 2 Dc from one loop, 6 Dc. We knit like this 2 times, 3 hdc, 2 sc, tighten, cut off the thread.

Color B: 2 Dc from one loop, 6 Dc. We knit like this 4 times, 3 hdc, 2 dc, tighten, cut the thread.

Color A: 2 Dc from one loop, 6 Dc. We knit this way 6 times. 3 hdc, 2 dc, tighten, cut the thread.

We knit the wrong side in the same way.

We continue crocheting potholders, the work is nearing completion. The initial ring must be tightened so that the circle does not become deformed. We hide the ends. We fold the two parts of the potholder inside out. Both parts need to be tied together with color E: Ss in any column, connecting 2 circles. PSN in the same column, PSN in a circle - the hook is inserted into the loops of the two parts. As soon as the last stitch is knitted, we do not break the thread, but make a loop.

Here's how to make a loop: 8 ch, ss - in the first stitch of the binding, 2 ch, make a turn. 16 hdc in the arch of 8 ch, dc in the last stitch of the binding. Tighten well, cut the thread, hide the ends.

Our DIY oven mitt is complete.
