Features of making warm snoods
Only a real winter scarf (crocheted) can completely protect you from the piercing wind and snow. The pattern, working tool and yarn directly affect the quality and appearance products.
To get a scarf like the one in the photo below, you need to purchase a very thick thread and a large hook.
Approximate yarn thickness range: 50-100 m/100 grams. The size of the hook should be selected individually to the yarn selected for making the product. However, experienced knitters recommend using a tool one size larger than needed for a particular yarn. Thus, the crochet pattern (pattern and pattern does not matter) will become softer.
Patterns that can be used for knitting warm snoods
You should not choose too complex a pattern to crochet a thick scarf. The diagram and description of elementary patterns are perfect for working with thick thread. For example, you can use the simplest RLS or SSN. For variety, they can be tied not by both upper “braids”, but only by one of them. The resulting canvas will have raised horizontal stripes. Short snood
This accessory is designed to be wrapped around the neck once. In order to (the scheme can be any) so that it turns out voluminous, it should be made high. As a rule, the shape of such a product when folded approaches a square (height equals width). The optimal size is considered to be 35 x 35 cm. But if the knitter plans to wear a scarf on her head, she should make it taller (about 50 cm).
You can knit a short snood in both directions: lengthwise or crosswise. You just need to take into account the distribution of the pattern stripes. Scarves with longitudinal stripes look more attractive. If you look at the gray scarf proposed below in the photo, then its knitting begins with a long VP chain.
Next, the work process includes knitting a flat fabric alternating several patterns. For decoration, this model is equipped with fasteners, but most often the edges of the fabric are sewn together or initially knitted in the round. In the latter case, no seam is formed, which is very convenient for a product such as a scarf.
Specifics of a long snood
When knitting an accessory intended to be wrapped twice around the neck, you also need to prepare a sample pattern. A long crocheted scarf-collar (the pattern can be dense or openwork) is woven in almost the same way as a short one.
Having chosen the direction of knitting, type on the VP and begin making the fabric. Dimensions that allow you to use a long snood as efficiently as possible:
- Width - 30-40 cm.
- The length of the product when folded is 45-70 cm.
There is no point in exceeding the specified length, since in this case you can crochet a scarf that is too large and uncomfortable. The diagram and description of many patterns are given in accordance with their repeats. For circular products this is of particular importance. It is necessary to ensure that the canvas consists of entire repeats. The “cut” halves look very sloppy.
