Having understood the features of conventional signs, you will freely assimilate any of these schemes. If you are learning knitting from scratch, we will offer you detailed lessons, which will describe to you step by step how to crochet a scarf quickly and easily.

p.s In the last article we looked at how to knit a scarf

Knitting for beginners

Knitting scarves is easy, but first you need to understand the basics of knitting technology, watch a video for beginners, find out what materials to use and what tools you will need. First of all, you need to know how to hold a hook in your hand:

  • You need to use the hand that you consider to be your main one; right-handed people use their right hand, left-handed people use their left hand;
  • the hook is clamped with the index finger and thumb, it can be positioned above the hand or under it - according to taste, and you should not hold your hands suspended, it is better to rest them on your elbows;
  • In the process of knitting, you need to learn how to hold the thread correctly, fixing it along the outer part of the palm, located between the little finger and ring finger.

Crochet methods

Having selected the desired yarn and the required tools, you need to master the basic techniques that you need to introduce before figuring out how to crochet a scarf. First of all, you need to master knitting in straight and reverse rows, reminiscent of knitting and purling when working with knitting needles. To diversify the resulting scarves, it is advisable to master a few more techniques for working with crochet:

  1. Fillet knitting with the creation of straight and reverse rows, where air loops with stitches will alternate. Having learned this technique, you can get openwork patterns on scarves, both small and large.
  2. Knitting in the round, in which the work is done in one direction. The diagram and description will tell you how to knit - spirally or in a circle. This technique is usually used to knit napkins and carpets.
  3. Knitting with expansion or narrowing of the fabric. In this case, it is necessary to add loops inside or on the edge, on one side or on both sides at once. To add, you will have to knit a certain number of columns for one base, and to subtract, you will need to knit only one of two adjacent columns.

Crochet patterns and reading them

In any instruction on how to crochet a scarf, beginners are especially intimidated by the patterns. If you don't imagine symbols, understanding their reading is quite difficult. You just need to learn a few basic rules:

If you find the most difficult thing when learning to knit to be memorizing symbols, keep in mind that you don’t have to memorize them, since each lesson has ones that decipher the crochet pattern. And here's the next one the most important species loops you need to learn:

  1. Initial loop. Place the tip of the thread over your index finger, after which a hook is inserted under it on the left, turned over, and a yarn over is made on top, then this thread is pulled through the resulting loop.
  2. The chain loop resembles the initial one, but the yarn over is made on the right and the thread is passed through the loop.
  3. Connecting post. To obtain it, you need to insert a hook into the second loop in the row and pull the thread through it. The thread is again pulled into the two resulting loops.
  4. Single crochet. This type of loop is used to reduce the number of loops. The beginning is similar to a connecting post, however, the thread is first passed through the second and third loops in the row, and then they are knitted.
  5. Double crochet. First, a loop is placed on the hook, then all actions are carried out as when making a single crochet.

Types of crochet hooks

Hooks are classified according to several parameters. For example, according to the material - the hook can be made of aluminum or wood, plastic or bamboo, steel or bone. Its number depends on the diameter of the tool. Hook No. 2 has a diameter of 2 millimeters. The diameter range is from 0.5 to 15 millimeters. The tool can also be of different lengths. There are short hooks, their length is up to 125-200 mm and long ones - from 350 to 450 mm. The hook should not be too sharp or too dull - this interferes with the work, and injury is possible. The hook should not have any defects to make it more comfortable for a beginner to work with it.

Recently, a scarf is not only an element of clothing, but also a fashion accessory. It is customary to wear it over an outfit so that all the patterns are visible. It is not difficult to knit such a product, you just need to strictly follow what the diagrams and description say. An article on how to crochet an openwork scarf with a diagram and description will kindly help with this. The first scarf that we will try to knit is called Autumn.

Autumn

We need 140 g of yarn sectional dyeing, hook No. 2.5.

The size of the finished product will be 138 cm by 24 cm.

Description

First you need to knit a chain of 61 air loops - 5 repeats (repeating element of the pattern) of 12 loops + 1 loop, so that the pattern is symmetrical. In this way, you need to knit 55 rows, as the diagram shows. In the last row, a picot frill is usually added to the product.

Pico is an easy way to tie the edge of a finished product. One of the ways to do it: cast on 3 air loops in the place where you need to tie. Insert the hook into the first one, grab the working thread and pull it through. Then grab the working thread again and pull it through two loops on the hook. Thus, continue knitting until the end of the edge of the product.

The second part of the scarf must be knitted from the initial chain, but on the other side.

The finished knitting needs to be straightened, moistened and then dried.

Openwork crochet scarf “Vivienne”

A stylish and at the same time warm scarf that is ideal for the cold season. It is better to wear it over clothes, tied with a loop or wrapped around the neck. To create a scarf, we will need 250 g of wool or wool blend thread with hook No. 4. We will knit the mesh first, and then the border patterns.

Description

To create a mesh, you need to cast on 15 chain stitches + 3 stitches, which will replace the double crochet for the first row. Next, we knit 2 more air loops, then skip 2 air loops, and on the 3rd loop we make a double crochet. Then we knit the entire row according to this pattern: 2 chain stitches, then skip 2 loops, and perform 1 double crochet. To make a net, the double crochets must be placed above the double crochets.

Scheme of the mesh of an openwork scarf

When the mesh is ready, we begin to create an openwork border. To do this, the fabric needs to be turned 90 degrees, that is, the knitting will now go along the scarf.

In the first row, we tie the edge of the fabric with single crochets. Each cell should have 3 columns.

The second one should be knitted with double crochets. Moreover, from each previous single crochet, you should get 2 double crochets. Due to this, we double the number of loops.

Third - we knit again with a double crochet and again increase the number of loops by 2 times.

The fourth row is knitted in the same way as the third, with double stitches.

Fifth - knit with a double crochet, but increase the number of loops only by one and a half times. That is, from two loops of the previous row you need to knit 3 loops.

Border pattern

In this model you can experiment with yarn colors. For example, knit the mesh in one color and the border in another. You can also change the border pattern.

The size of the finished product is 192 cm by 11 cm.

Description

We cast on 451 air loops, which include 30 repeats of 15 loops + 1 loop, so that the pattern is symmetrical. Then we knit 7 rows of the main fabric, as shown in the diagram. From rows 8 to 12 there are scallops, which are knitted separately. The beginning and end of each of these rows should be attached to the 7th row with a connecting post.

Palatine scarf. Openwork pattern.

The palatine scarf must be in women's wardrobe. It goes perfectly with a classic coat, long cardigan or just a jumper. The work is labor-intensive, but the end result is worth it.

So, we will need: 400g of blue yarn with a composition of 75% wool and 25% polyamide, hook number 3.

Finished product size: 180 cm by 50 cm + fringe

Description

We collect a chain of air loops. We knit rows 1 to 3 once, and repeat the pattern of the second and third rows throughout the entire knitting process. At a height of 180cm, complete the fourth row of the pattern. After finishing the work, cut the thread.

Making fringe. For each tassel we need to prepare 4 threads 40 cm long, fold them in half and tie them over the edge of the fabric. Then the fringe should be steamed and trimmed.

Moisten the finished knitting on the wrong side, lay it out horizontally and let it dry.

The patterns of this product resemble a pineapple, hence the name. You can wear a scarf in different ways: drape around the neck or throw over the shoulders like a frill.

A frill is a lush woven or lace frill that runs from the neckline down the chest. Used to trim a blouse or dress.

To create it needs to be prepared: 75g yarn and hook No. 2,3.
The size of the semicircle of the finished product is 112 cm, and the width is 16.5 cm

Description

We knit a chain of 257 air loops: 21 repeats of 12 loops + 5 loops so that the pattern is symmetrical. Then we knit 12 rows as whole cloth. The pineapple motif, consisting of 4 rows, must be performed separately. Decorate the initial chain with picot binding. It is indicated in blue in the diagram.

Yarn for knitted products selected in accordance with the season or items of clothing with which it is intended to be worn. Suitable for winter products: wool; wool mixture; mixed and acrylic threads. For the warm season, yarn from: cotton is recommended; bamboo; viscose.

Simple crochet scarf

IN detailed master in class we will tell you step by step how to crochet a scarf for beginners. It is recommended to knit the product loosely, but not loosely. Try to make the loops the same, then the finished item will look beautiful.

We remind you that, so that the finished product does not disappoint, after its completion, you must first knit a sample of the pattern. This is the only way it will be clear whether the pattern was chosen or not.

Knitting a pattern sample

What you will need for this:

  • Yarn (75% acrylic; 25% wool);
  • Hook according to yarn number.

Work progress:

1 step

Cast on a chain of 17 VPs (chain loops), of which 3 are lifting VPs.

Step 2

The scarf is knitted in turning rows, which is why lifting loops are made.

To correctly rotate the product, you need to grab the thread, skip three loops from the hook and insert the tool into the fourth (the last loop on the hook is considered working and is not counted when counting loops). We knit a Dc (double crochet).

Step 3

1st row: all loops are knitted into each loop of the previous row.

When the row ends, you need to make three VPs and turn the knitting. We continue to knit the dc. Knit a sample this way to see how the finished item will look.

Our sample:

The finished product, knitted with single crochets, looks like this:

Beautiful crochet scarf patterns

We offer simple but frequently used pattern schemes with detailed description, which will quickly and easily knit a fashion accessory, even for novice needlewomen.

Technical crochet scarf pattern (1)

A fairly common pattern for knitting dense, but at the same time, openwork items. Maxi yarn is suitable for demi-season accessories. The hook number is selected according to the yarn size or indicated on the label. If you take a thicker hook, then the “holes” will be larger, thereby increasing the openwork of the canvas.

Pattern diagram and description

We put on the knitting needles the required number of VP (chain loops), do not forget about the loops for lifting the row.

1st row: in the sixth loop from the hook *knit a dc (dc), make a ch, and in the same base loop, knit a second dc, skip two ch chains and knit from* to* to the end of the row. Finish the row of dcs. Turn.

Row 2: knit *dc, ch, dc into the arch of the spinning row, skip two loops and continue knitting from* to *until the row ends. Turn.

Thus, we continue to knit until the desired size of the accessory. The canvas can be either multi-colored or plain.

Technical pattern (2)

The second frequently used pattern option is quite easy to knit. It is very flexible and great for combining with other patterns.

Pattern diagram and its description 2

Row 1: knit 3 dc (4th three runways, make 2 ch by skipping two loops of the initial chain, *4 dc in each loop of the chain, two ch* - knit to the end of the chain. Finish with 4 dc. Unfold the knitting.

2nd row: 3 VP, 3 DC, 2 VP above the VP of the previous row - knit to the end.

Thus, constantly turning the knitting, repeat row 2 until the desired length of the accessory.

Granny square (grandmother's square)

"Granny Square" - great option for knitting scarves, stoles, shawls and shawls. This technique allows you to use leftover yarn, which accumulates in large quantities over time. At the same time, the quality and beauty of the product is not lost, but on the contrary, it becomes simply fabulous. Suitable yarn for this pattern: cotton/acrylic; wool/acrylic

Motif shawl

Grandmother square motif: diagram and description

The motif starts from the middle and is knitted in the round, gradually increasing in volume due to additions. How this happens can be clearly seen in the diagram.

We collect 8 VPs and close them in a ring.

1st row: cast on 3 runways (lifting air loop), and knit 2 dc into the ring. We form the first corner of the future square with three VPs. Next *3DC, 3VP (second corner), repeat from* to* two more times, finish the row with two VPs and SS (connecting stitch) in the third VP of the beginning of the row. The result should be a motif with four arches (corners).

2nd row: dial 4 VP (last column of the row), * in the first arch, knit 3 Dc. 3 VP, then even 3 more Dc, VP* - repeat 2 times. Finish with 3 dc in the fourth arch, ch, 2 dc, sl st in the third ch of the beginning of the row.

Continue knitting gradually, increasing the square until you get it right size.

Openwork scarves: diagrams and descriptions

The advantage of a crochet hook over knitting needles is its ability to turn a simple accessory into a unique thing. Only with crochet can you achieve such “openwork” of the finished product. For beginner knitters, a crochet hook also means saved nerves. Here, when knitting a pattern, the loop will not slip and “run away”. If there is an error in the motif, the yarn unravels easily and needlework continues without any problems. We invite you to knit with us simple openwork crochet scarves with diagrams and descriptions. Read also how to knit in our last article.

Scarf "coffee with milk"

The presented model of a women's openwork scarf looks gentle and adds mystery and charm to the image. The product is knitted horizontally. Then it is tied with a “shell” pattern and decorated with fringe.

What you will need for work:

Yarn (100% wool; 100g/338m) – only 200g (50g each in brown shades);

Hook according to yarn size.

Work progress:

The arrow in the diagram indicates the beginning of knitting.

1st row: in the fifth loop of the chain, dc (dc), then in each ch (chain loop) until the end of the row dc (dc).

2nd row: 3 runway (lifting air loop), in the third column of the previous row we knit a dc, *ch, skip the loop of the previous row, dc* - repeat from* to* until the end of the row.

Row 3: Runway and work a sc into each loop of the previous row (single crochet).

4th row: runway, sc, 2 VP and in the 3rd loop before. row СС2Н (double crochet), 2 VP, СС2Н in the same loop, 2 VP, skip two loops before. row * RLS, picot, 2 VP and in the 3rd loop before. row СС2Н, 2 VP, СС2Н, 2 VP* - repeat until the end.

5th row: 3 VP, into the PS arch (lush column), 2 VP, PS, 2 VP, PS, above the pico VP, * into the PS arch, 2 VP, PS, 2 VP, PS, over the pico VP8 - repeat until the end , complete the row of dcs.

From 6 to 10 rows knit as from 1 to 3.

Openwork crochet scarf made of thick yarn

When cold weather sets in, you want to wrap yourself up warmly in something soft and cozy. A scarf made of thick yarn is just the right option. Despite the “openwork”, the accessory will fully perform its functions of heating and protection from the cold.

To work you will need:

  • Thick yarn gray(50% wool, 50% acrylic) in 100g/120m – 400g;
  • Hook – 7-8mm.

Size of the finished product: height – 31 cm; length - 225 cm.

The product is knitted in turning rows.

Pattern: 8 p – 10 cm wide; 4 r - in height.

Work progress:

At the beginning, you need to dial 25 VP and make another loop for lifting. Starting from the first row we knit, following the pattern:

Row 1: in the sixth loop from the hook, knit a fan of *9 dc, in the 4th loop from the pattern, make a sl st, skip 4 ch* and knit from * to * two more times, finish the row of sc.

2 r-d: 4 VPP and SS2N in the first loop of the first row, * 3 VP, in the 5th loop of a fan sc, 3 VP, in the sc before. row СС2Н, 2 VP, СС2Н* - knit from* to* twice. At the end there is one VP between CC2H.

Row 3: 3 runways and knit 4 more dcs in the same base loop, *in sc before. row, knit a sc in the arch of 2 VPs, knit 9 dc* - repeat 2 times, finish with 5 dc.

Decorate the short edges of the product with fringe.

Crochet snood scarf: diagram and description

Three versions of the snood scarf knitted according to the same pattern. Depending on the chosen yarn, thicker or thinner, the product has a completely different type. So to knit this accessory, you need to decide what time of year it will be worn and what it will be combined with. Then select the appropriate yarn and hook.

Job description:

The snood scarf will be knitted in the round, that is, it is very convenient and you will not then need to sew the edges of the finished product.

To get started, knit a sample and determine how many stitches you initially need to cast on.

Make a chain of VP and close it in a circle. Next, the product will be in a circle in a spiral, that is, there is no need to make connecting posts at the end of the row. There is also no need to make lifting air loops at the beginning of each row. And we will knit as follows, looking at the diagram.

1 r: 5 VP and Dc in the last loop of the chain, VP, skip two loops of the chain SS (connecting column), * VP, in the third loop Dc, VP, SS2N, VP, Dc, RLS * - repeat from * to * to end of the circle.

2 r: RLS, knit VP over VP, *in SS prev. row, knit СС2Н and ССН, VP, СС* - repeat until the end of the row.

The fashion accessory is ready.

Crochet scarf from rings

Ruffle scarf

Openwork scarf with buttons

In any weather from September to April, a circular scarf is indispensable. This accessory is called a snood, or scarf-collar. Many girls have already appreciated its charm and numerous advantages. The main advantage of the snood is that it allows you to wrap your neck securely and tightly. Also, when thrown over the head, it can easily replace a warm hat, without causing such unpleasant consequences as a crumpled hairstyle and a mark from the edge of the headdress on the forehead.

Types of Circular Scarves

Given the wide range of consumers, it is not surprising that there are several types of circular scarves. They are classified based on the knitting method used. You can have a pattern that includes only single crochets (SC) and single or double crochet stitches (DC, SS2H). This product is considered dense.

The presence of air loops (VP) in the pattern of the pattern turns the snood into openwork product. It is worth clarifying that an ornament with through holes does not mean at all that the scarf will no longer be warm. All its warming qualities will be preserved if warm yarn with fluff is used. For example, if you are knitting (the pattern includes a very large number of chains of VP and large holes), it will be warm if knitted from angora or mohair. Natural fiber in the thread must be at least 50%.

In addition to the knitting density, snoods are distinguished by size:

  • Long (two or more turns around the neck).
  • Short scarf (one turn).

Both are very comfortable, but the long one looks more voluminous.

Features of making warm snoods

Only a real winter scarf (crocheted) can completely protect you from the piercing wind and snow. The pattern, working tool and yarn directly affect the quality and appearance products.

To get a scarf like the one in the photo below, you need to purchase a very thick thread and a large hook.

Approximate yarn thickness range: 50-100 m/100 grams. The size of the hook should be selected individually to the yarn selected for making the product. However, experienced knitters recommend using a tool one size larger than needed for a particular yarn. Thus, the crochet pattern (pattern and pattern does not matter) will become softer.

Patterns that can be used for knitting warm snoods

You should not choose too complex a pattern to crochet a thick scarf. The diagram and description of elementary patterns are perfect for working with thick thread. For example, you can use the simplest RLS or SSN. For variety, they can be tied not by both upper “braids”, but only by one of them. The resulting canvas will have raised horizontal stripes. You can also use other simple patterns.

If the thread selected for work has a thickness of 200-400 m/100 grams, then the choice suitable schemes is expanding significantly. Here you can already apply patterns with a large number of CCHs, with “bushes” or lush columns.

When knitting openwork scarves, you can choose any pattern at your discretion.

Short snood

This accessory is designed to be wrapped around the neck once. In order to (the scheme can be any) so that it turns out voluminous, it should be made high. As a rule, the shape of such a product when folded approaches a square (height equals width). The optimal size is considered to be 35 x 35 cm. But if the knitter plans to wear a scarf on her head, she should make it taller (about 50 cm).

You can knit a short snood in both directions: lengthwise or crosswise. You just need to take into account the distribution of the pattern stripes. Scarves with longitudinal stripes look more attractive. If you look at the gray scarf proposed below in the photo, then its knitting begins with a long VP chain.

Next, the work process includes knitting a flat fabric alternating several patterns. For decoration, this model is equipped with fasteners, but most often the edges of the fabric are sewn together or initially knitted in the round. In the latter case, no seam is formed, which is very convenient for a product such as a scarf.

Specifics of a long snood

When knitting an accessory intended to be wrapped twice around the neck, you also need to prepare a sample pattern. A long crocheted scarf-collar (the pattern can be dense or openwork) is woven in almost the same way as a short one.

Having chosen the direction of knitting, type on the VP and begin making the fabric. Dimensions that allow you to use a long snood as efficiently as possible:

  • Width - 30-40 cm.
  • The length of the product when folded is 45-70 cm.

There is no point in exceeding the specified length, since in this case you can crochet a scarf that is too large and uncomfortable. The diagram and description of many patterns are given in accordance with their repeats. For circular products this is of particular importance. It is necessary to ensure that the canvas consists of entire repeats. The “cut” halves look very sloppy.
