How to properly prepare your nails for applying a velvet manicure?

Preparing nails for velvet manicure
  • No matter how fashionable the manicure design is, it will look beautiful only on well-groomed nails. In the case of a velvet manicure, the nail plate should be perfect, almost like an artist’s canvas
  • If you try to apply a velvet coating on an old layer of varnish, you will end up with not very neat nails. Therefore, it will be better if you spend a little of your time and prepare the nail plate for the new design as thoroughly as possible.

So:

  • At the initial stage, you need to completely remove the old polish and give your nails a strengthening bath. To do this, make a restorative remedy from water, sea salt and iodine and soak your hands in it for at least 10-15 minutes.
  • After the nails have soaked a little, check how well the cuticle has softened. If it starts to move with light pressure, then take a trimmer and tweezers and completely remove the entire cuticle. After all the fingers have been treated, dip them in the saline solution for another 5 minutes.
  • Then let your nails dry a little, be sure to apply shea butter to the cuticles and let it absorb well. Be sure to treat the skin around the nail plate with oil, as this will help remove germs and promote faster regeneration of the skin.
  • At the next stage, we proceed to leveling the nail plate. To give the desired shape, we use nail files coated with diamond or mineral coating, and to remove small growths and irregularities, we use wooden or silicone tools.
  • At the very end, be sure to degrease the nail plate and all the skin around it. This will completely remove any remaining oil that may interfere with the correct application of the varnish.

Materials for velvet manicure

  • If you are planning to do such a manicure at home, then purchase the highest quality flock in the store. But in no case do you skimp on this cosmetic material, because the higher its quality, the more ideal your nails will look

If you like very bright colors, you can make your nails bright red, dark blue, deep blue or even light green. And if you want your manicure to attract a minimum amount of attention, then apply a beige, peach or milky flock to the nail plate
  • If you wish, you can combine velvet sand and matte or mirror varnish in your manicure. This combination is quite acceptable, as long as the colors of both cosmetic materials are ideally combined with each other

Secrets of velvet manicure

The nuances of applying velvet manicure:

  • When choosing flock, be sure to carefully consider its structure. If you like high-quality material, it will be dry and crumbly. But the presence of even small lumps will indicate that the flock was not stored quite correctly
  • When doing a manicure, be sure to place a piece of paper or cardboard under your fingers. This little trick will help you collect those remnants of velvet sand that did not end up on the nail plate.
  • Try not to do this manicure in a draft, because even the slightest breath of wind will blow all the colored powder off your hands. Because of this, the velvet coating may turn out uneven and untidy.
  • Never try to coat colored flock with a fixative coating. This will not extend the life of a velvet manicure in any way, but will simply create an unsightly dark crust on its surface.

Video: Velvet manicure

Of course, every girl carefully takes care of herself and, naturally, tries to keep her nails neat. “Velvet” manicure with gel polish has long been nothing new, but not all fashionistas know how to apply it correctly. When this technique first appeared, it was done using a special varnish, but today it is possible using any material.

"Velvet" is perfect for creating original manicure to complete your look.

Required materials

Suede is always in trend. Take, for example, suede shoes - there is always a demand for them; over time, only the shape of the nose or the size of the heel changes. The same alluring velvety can be applied to your nails, and for this, the “sanded sugar” technique will come to your aid.

Since the “velvet” (or “plush”) effect attracted many girls, brand companies immediately released suitable sets for such a manicure. But pick up necessary materials You can do it yourself, the main thing is to know exactly what to look for.

What exactly materials will be needed to create such an unusual nail art:

  • clear base coat;
  • flock;
  • varnish to match the flock;
  • a voluminous brush, preferably in the form of a fan;
  • flat cuvette.

For the base, you can take any colorless varnish with protective properties. Today there is a huge selection of varnishes that not only strengthen nails, but also nourish them with various vitamins.

As for flock, the situation is a little more complicated. This material contains not only cotton and wool, but also viscose, so many professionals use other materials, for example: velvet and acrylic sand, star dust and coarser sand. When choosing flock, pay attention to its structure. Large particles will create colossal volume, and small elements will add tenderness to the manicure.

Remember that the colored varnish should match the shade of the flock or powder as closely as possible.

If this rule is not followed, then natural spaces will be too conspicuous, which will significantly worsen appearance- the manicure will seem untidy.

It is necessary to use a brush to remove excess flock. The brush should be elastic in order to sweep away the non-adherent elements of the powder.

The cuvette strip is necessary for quickly collecting excess material so that you can safely use it in the future. Of course, if it is not available, the cuvette can be easily replaced with a sheet of paper or cardboard.

Creation of "velvet"

There are hundreds of different techniques that will help you create a stunning and extraordinary manicure. Of course, every fashionista chooses what she likes, but it’s worth paying attention to such an unusual manicure. This effect makes the design special, and it can also be diversified if desired.

There are several techniques for creating “plush” nails. And each option is slightly different. But there are also two rules, if not followed, you will certainly fail.

  • If you are creating such a design at home, then you need to abandon your favorite gel polish, since its use requires the presence of special equipment. If you have everything you need, then it is better to do a manicure with gel polish - it lasts longer.
  • The next thing to do is to carefully prepare your nails. Otherwise, the manicure will look untidy.

The fact is that “granulated sugar” attracts increased attention and even the slightest flaws will be clearly expressed.

After all the preparations, you can start creating this beauty.

  • Apply base transparent coating a thin layer on all nails. If you use gel polish, then after each step you need to dry your nails in a lamp.
  • We cover the nails with one layer of colored varnish, carefully working on the end of the nail.
  • Next comes the second layer. If the tone lies tightly, then you can use colorless varnish again, and while the nails are not dry, carefully cover the nail plate with flock and press it down with tapping movements. But don’t be too zealous, the movements should be smooth, otherwise you may damage the varnish layer.

Manicurists advise simply dipping your nail into the flock or using tweezers for convenience. Excess particles must be carefully and thoroughly removed with a brush.

If you have done a manicure more than once and know how to use auxiliary products, then you will not have problems creating “velvet”. Of course, the process can be simplified and significantly accelerated using an ultraviolet lamp, but this is not necessary.

Even if you made a mistake during the process of creating a manicure, don’t worry, everything can be corrected with the help of nail polish remover.

Velvet patterns

The process of creating velvet patterns is slightly different from completely covering the nail plate. Of course, before this manicure you should prepare your nails, as before any other, and cover them with a base. And only after these procedures can you begin to create the desired drawing.

  • Using transparent gel, draw fancy curls or your chosen design.
  • Using colored varnish, draw the outline of the design again, but it is best to apply a thicker layer. This way the drawing will look more voluminous and with clear contours.
  • Cover the design with sand or flock of your choice. Try to apply it evenly.
  • Dry well with a lamp.
  • Carefully remove excess " granulated sugar» with a brush. It is better to move from the cuticle to the edge of the nail - this way you will not harm your manicure.
  • If desired, you can secure the pattern with a top coat. Now dry your nails in the lamp again.

Materials and tools for velvet manicure

To create a wool covering you need a small set of materials. The kit should contain such products as varnish, it can be of completely different shades and flock. Flock is a material that is similar to small fibers of viscose wool or cotton. There is no velvet in the flock itself. Only after the suede manicure is done will that velvety effect become noticeable. Flock can be made from lint different lengths and thickness. This property helps to experiment with application, and the wide color palette of the varnish allows girls to choose even the craziest shades of coating. In addition, the set for velor manicure includes a brush. With it you can easily clean your fingers from excess particles of materials.

Tools and methods for creating velvet manicure at home.

Knitted designs or velor coverings have become popular recently. It's relative new technology, which is in great demand in winter time. This way you can visually “warm” your nails.

Flock nail design - covering nails with velvet sand

In order to make a velor design, a special powder is used - flock. These are particles of a certain soft texture. They can be both large and small. A similar product is sold in manicure stores and in shops with fabrics and accessories. The substance is called scrapbooking sand. Matte sand is sold in small jars and can be of different colors.

Salons often combine gel polish coating and flocking. This is not the most best idea, since small particles of velvet dust do not completely adhere to the nail. Accordingly, the part rises slightly above the surface. In case of mechanical damage, the powder peels off from the nail very quickly.

Velvet coating technique:

  • When applying gel polish, the nail is covered with a base coat, and then colored gel polish is applied. After this it is dried in UV
  • Next, apply a top coat with a sticky layer and dry it again in UV
  • After this, pour sand into a small container and dip the nail. It's like it's being pressed into powder.
  • After this, the nail is not covered with anything. Accordingly, the sticky layer remains sticky and simply adheres to the sand.

Small particles of sand become electrified and stick to the tools. This is extremely inconvenient. Therefore, a flocator is often used for design - a special device that creates a weak electric field. This allows the powder particles to be evenly distributed on the nails.

How to make a velvet manicure at home?

Designing at home is quite easy. You will need flock, that is, the powder itself, a base for varnish and a color coating.

Instructions for creating a manicure:

  • Cover your nails with base and dry it. This will save your nail plate
  • After this, cover your nails with colored varnish that is as close in color as possible to the flock.
  • Let the varnish dry completely. Apply a second coat of varnish and while it is wet, take the velor with tweezers and rub the nail with it.
  • You need to sprinkle the flock very thickly. After this, let the coating dry completely and sweep away any remaining powder from the nail with a fluffy brush.
  • This manicure lasts only 1-2 days.

Types of velvet nail coating

There are several options for creating a velvet manicure:

  • At home with regular varnishes
  • Flocan and gel coatings

The first option is ideal if you don’t have extra money and want to prepare for a party or holiday. The creation technique is outrageously simple. Just pour sand on top of the wet colored varnish and wait for it to dry. The remains are swept away with a brush.

The second option is more durable and can last on nails for up to 20 days, although in reality sand lasts much less. It is necessary to prepare the plate. To do this, the nail is sanded with a file, removing the natural shine. After this, it is covered with a base, which is dried in a UV lamp. Next, a color coating is applied and dried again. After this, the nail is covered with a second layer of gel polish and dried again. Then take a top coat without a sticky layer and cover the nail with it and sprinkle velvet floccan particles directly onto the wet mass. Without sweeping away anything, the fingers are placed in a UV lamp. The top hardens and using a brush, remove excess velvety sand from the surface.

Velvet sand can be combined with glossy and matte finishes. Using gel paints you can create an ornate pattern. They often do moon manicure velvet sand.

  • After this, the entire nail is covered with a top coat without a sticky layer and dried.
  • A top without a sticky layer is applied to the lunula area and a flock is applied with tweezers. Dry in a lamp, and the remaining lint is removed with a brush.

Below in the photo there are many options for fashionable nail designs with flock.

Nails with velvet flowers

There are many techniques for making such a design. Many beginners and masters who did not have time to purchase special devices simply paint flowers with gel paints or a topcoat without a sticky layer and sprinkle the nails with sand. Then dry as usual. But this technique requires a lot of time and effort, so the task can be simplified.

Instructions for creating velvet flowers:

  • Prepare your nail. Simply remove the natural shine from it and remove the pterygium
  • Prime the nail with subprimer and acid primer. Let dry
  • Apply base and dry in a lamp. Apply gel polish and dry
  • Take a metal stamping plate and apply gel paint on it without a sticky layer
  • Take the stamp and apply it to the plate
  • Carefully transfer the design onto your nail. Sprinkle flowers with flock and dry in a lamp
  • Brush away any remaining sand

In this case, the flowers turn out just perfect and even, and most importantly, a minimum of time and effort is spent on manicure.

Velvet sand designs on nails

In fact, nothing is drawn with sand. Use regular gel polishes and paints without a sticky layer. Most often, for design and drawing small details, a kolinsky brush is used, which is equal in thickness to the tip of a needle. But the easiest way to design is using stamps, that is, stamping. It turns out a mixed and very simple technique. To create a manicure, a base layer of colored varnish is applied, and after it dries, an imprint is applied to the nail with the paint that is as close in color as possible to the color of sand. And sand is poured onto the wet drawing and dried in a lamp.

Wedding design can be done using a thin kolinsky brush. It is distinguished by its small thickness and elasticity of the pile. After applying the design, powder is sprinkled and dried again in the lamp. The design looks very neat and beautiful. In wedding design, ornate patterns and flowers are usually drawn.

As you can see, even a beginner can create a flock design. But coatings using gel polishes and flocking are more durable.

What is a velvet manicure, who is it suitable for and how to do it yourself, as well as design features, pros and cons.

Velvet has always been in fashion, sometimes receding into the background, sometimes occupying a leading position in the field of beauty. Blouses, skirts, bows made of plush material are now and then found on girls of different ages. With the development of the nail industry, the material served as the beginning of a new design. Velvet manicure is a modern nail decoration technique that is gaining popularity.

Design Features

Fluffy manicure is most often done in salons using a special device - a flocider. The device is filled with small fibers made of wool, acrylic, viscose, synthetics (flock). Under pressure, the pile flies out of the device and, as it were, “drives” the fleecy coating into the varnish base. For home use, you can find a flocider in modern professional stores.

The first set for velvet manicure was released by the company Ciate in 2012. The founders are considered to be the designer nail art Sam Beidle and founder of the company Velveteen.

There is also a special ready-made velvet varnish coating, which is applied in several layers. However, both flock and flock coating cost a lot and are not easy to find on the open market. For the same reason, only a few nails are often decorated in this way, completely covered with velor, or embossed in the form of a design.

The feeling of suede on nails can be achieved using acrylic spraying, which has a lower cost and is more common on sale. A manicure with velvet powder or sand is easier, faster and cheaper, but the effect of cashmere is in no way inferior to flocking.

For manicure with velvet sand, powder or flock, use only. Regular varnish dries quickly and does not have sufficient layer thickness for a cashmere coating. The villi simply will not be able to gain a foothold.

Not used for velor manicure and top coat, so as not to cover the fluffy effect.

Advantages and disadvantages of velvet spraying

Velvet manicure undoubtedly has more positive aspects than negative ones. The disadvantages, although with some stretch, include:

  • the procedure and materials for “real” flocking are expensive (however, you can always find alternative options that do not detract from the effect);
  • requires a flocider (although you can do without it);
  • Experience and skill are of no small importance (but desire and patience are more important);
  • It is performed on gel polish (you can try it on regular one, but you will need to apply at least 3 layers of varnish. And such a “design” will take a very long time to dry).

A salon manicure costs about 1,000 rubles, while home procedure will cost around 300 rubles.

The list of advantages is much longer:

  • Due to spraying, the manicure becomes stronger and lasts longer, up to a month;
  • makes it possible to create various patterns and three-dimensional 3D images;
  • can be either matte with a velvet effect or glossy, similar to a sugar coating;
  • modern materials allow you to perform a velvet manicure yourself at home;
  • does not require a top coating, which reduces the cost, simplifies the procedure and execution time;
  • provides a huge selection of colors;
  • suitable for any and any event;
  • the length and shape of the nails do not matter;
  • the velvet covering can be additionally decorated with rhinestones or other decor;
  • stylish, impressive and very beautiful.

As you can see, there are quite a few prerequisites for trying to paint your nails in velor style. But, like any other manicure, it requires preliminary preparation.

Preparing for flocking

Those who do manicures on their own have already mastered the training using other techniques. For those who prefer salons for nail design, preparation will also not take much time and will not be difficult.

  1. Prepare a nail bath with moderately hot water. You can add soap solution sea salt, soda, iodine, herbs, essential oils. This will not only soften the cuticle, but also strengthen and brighten the nail plate.
  2. We lower our hands for 10-20 minutes.
  3. Use an orange stick to push back the cuticle or do a classic manicure with nail clippers.
  4. We file down the free nail edge to the required length and shape, carefully polish the surface with a block or.
  5. We remove all irregularities and roughness with a soft nail file.
  6. Lubricate the cuticle with cream or oil.
  7. After absorption, degrease the nail with the usual product (nail polish remover with acetone is suitable).
  8. Apply the base and dry under a lamp.
  9. Apply the required number of layers of gel polish of any color, drying each layer under a lamp.

We do not dry the last layer, but move directly to the velvet coating.

Instructions for applying velvet coating

Already on sale ready-made kits for velvet manicure. The materials may vary slightly, but basically they are:

  • flocider (possible without it);
  • flock/acrylic powder/sand spraying;
  • base varnish;
  • metal backing or sheet of paper for nails;
  • brush with long dense bristles;
  • stencil for drawing or designing part of the nail.

Application techniques differ slightly.

Application with flocider

  1. Flock is poured into a special compartment in the device.
  2. If the previous coat of varnish is dry, it is necessary to apply another one. Do not dry!
  3. Place your finger on the metal plate.
  4. Turn on the flocider. Villi will begin to fly out of it under pressure, “driving” into the varnish. Using a flocider ensures stronger adhesion to the varnish, so the manicure lasts longer.
  5. Dry the coating under a UV lamp for the required time.
  6. Sweep away any remaining loose fibers with a brush.
  7. Design all nails or selected fragments in this way.

When using a flocider, it is advisable to wear a protective (or medical) mask to avoid flying fluff getting into your eyes, nose and mouth.

Velvet varnish

IN in this case Prepared nails are painted with a special varnish with bristles. Application requires 2-3 layers. Each layer is dried under a lamp. The fixative/topcoat is used depending on the type of varnish chosen. Very small fibers can be fixed. Longer coats may lose their fluffy effect when applied.

Acrylic powder/dust

  1. If the last layer of gel polish has dried, reapply. Do not dry!
  2. Pour the required amount of flock/dust/powder onto a convenient surface.
  3. Using tweezers, your hands, or directly from the sheet, sprinkle the nail generously with the spray. (The hand should be placed on a sheet of paper so that the scattered material can then be collected back into the jar and to avoid “scattering all over the room”)
  4. Gently press the spray onto the nail plate with a brush or cotton pad for a strong “adhesion” to the varnish.
  5. Dry under a lamp.
  6. Brush off any remaining dust from the nail with a brush.
