Selection of varnish for French manicure

A quality tool is the key to success in any job. And before you start, you should select the appropriate varnishes. A good set for creating a French jacket will provide an excellent visual picture.

When applied to the nail, high-quality material will fit and look perfect.

  1. Buying low-quality goods from stores or stalls unknown to you is not even suitable for experimenting with French clothing, so you need to purchase a good branded product. It may not be cheap, but you can use it longer.
  2. There is a special line of varnishes for French manicure; ordinary colored varnishes will have to work with this; in this case, they will not work. It is recommended to buy a special kit containing various shades of varnish, stripes and base.
  3. As standard, for a French manicure you will need a colorless base, white varnish to create a smile on the tip of the nail, and a tint material. It can have a cold, warm or soft pink tint.
  4. When purchasing a French manicure kit or individual polishes for the first time, it is better to pay attention to the usual sets and colors. Purchasing flashy and expensive professional-grade materials is not acceptable for gaining experience.
  5. After mastering the simplest French skills, you can work with other scales.

Instructions

Before you start doing a French manicure, prepare the tool.

You will need:

  • file for processing the nail plate;
  • base coat;
  • tint varnish;
  • white coating for nail tips;
  • drying-fixer;
  • mechanical trimmer;
  • brush;
  • strips for forming a “smile”.

If you don’t have special strips on hand, you can use tape, but working with it will be problematic when learning.

Step 1:

Any manicure includes high-quality nail treatment. It is recommended to steam your hands in a bath.

To strengthen your nails, you can add a little sea salt. It is not recommended to apply cream to your nails and skin before applying polish.

Step 2

After the procedure, the overgrown cuticle is moved to the base of the nail and carefully removed with a trimmer. If the growths on the sides are strong, I use special tweezers.

Step 3

The nail is given the required shape using a nail file. The tool leads from the edges of the nail to the central part. This will prevent the formation of cracks and small chips on the nails.

Step 4

Nails are covered with base varnish; it has no color. It is necessary to distribute the base in an exact layer on top of the nail and the edges below it.

This will provide protection from the effects of household chemicals and hot water. The base must dry thoroughly before applying the next layer.

Step 5

The entire surface of the nail is covered with tinted varnish and left until completely dry. If there are no flaws in the form of spots on the nails, then you can take a light transparent flesh shade.

Step 6

Strips to create a “smile” are glued so that the desired length of the tip of the nail stands out. It should depend on its length.

On short nails, the length of the “smile” should not exceed two millimeters. The strips must be pressed firmly against the nail to prevent the varnish from spreading under them. They are glued very evenly so that the manicure does not seem skewed.

Step 7

White varnish is applied to each tip in one layer. After drying, it is applied a second time to enhance the contrast. After 10-15 minutes, the strips are removed. By this time, the white varnish should be completely dry.

Step 8

A drying fixative is applied on top for a protective layer. It will give a pleasant gloss to the nail and make the French manicure more resistant to external influences.

Advice

It is recommended to update French manicure as your nails grow. This will allow you to gain experience and refresh your nail art. After honing your skills, you can master fashionable French techniques, the cost of which in the salon can be impressive.

At any stage of applying varnish, you must wait until each layer dries. If you ignore this, the manicure will not work. You can’t do a manicure if the skin near your nails has lesions and the nail plates are infected with fungus.

If you sweat excessively, your hands should be thoroughly dried. It is not recommended to treat your hands with cream or oil before cutting the cuticle.

The base for the French coat should be fortified so that under the top layers the nail plate does not suffer from a lack of oxygen.

Types of French manicure

Over time, this type of nail design has acquired many modifications.

The basis of the jacket is tone and “smile”, but you can add a variety of designs to this. This includes the shape or width of the nail plate, the use of different colors, different designs, and additional decorations in the form of sparkles or rhinestones.

  • The classic French jacket combines delicate pastel shades. The “smile” at the tip is done with matte white varnish. In this manicure, the base color is in perfect harmony with the skin tone. Usually the classics give the feeling that there is no polish on the nails, but they look very well-groomed.

  • Millennium French or shiny manicure includes a bright, decorated smile that shimmers in the sun. The shiny material can be applied to the entire tip or carefully follow the “smile” line underneath. For the millennium, silver or gold dust, glitter, and shimmering varnish are used.

  • Colored French manicures include a variety of bold colors and shades for a “smiley” look. In this case, the finish of the nail tip is selected in accordance with taste preferences. There are no specific rules for nail treatment. Bright and acidic colors can be used for edging. Teenage girls can experiment by making a “smile” on each nail with a different color.

  • Decorative French is the most complex manicure option in this style. This is amazing art and exquisite work. Drawings, stucco molding, beads and even lace can be applied to the tip of the plate. Decorative processing is indispensable for holidays and grand celebrations. It requires good skills and patience.

  • The Hollywood or lunar French has come into fashion recently, but has already won its audience. In this manicure, the “smile” can be located at the base of the nail and at its tip, or only at the base. Dark, rich tones are often used for lunar design. Rich contrasting tones are suitable for the crescent moon.

  • Non-standard types of French have an unconventional “smile” shape. It can be in the form of a zigzag or wave. A beveled crescent is practiced. You can often find an ombre manicure option. This is a special application of varnish in which there is no clear transition. There is a smooth gradation from the tip of the nail to the base of the plate.

French Manicure (French) and Moon Manicure!

French manicure, or French, is a universal nail design and is suitable for any woman. Despite its name, this manicure has nothing to do with France.

It was invented by American designers, and called French for advertising purposes, since France has always been considered the trendsetter of world fashion. To make it at home, just a little skill is enough.

French manicure has nothing to do with France.

How to do a French manicure correctly

French manicure is painting the edge of the nail in a different color. A classic French manicure is when the tips of the nails are white.

Depending on the color of the tip of the nail, there are different types of French:

  • fan-french,
  • millennium,
  • stained glass and others.

In order to understand how to properly do a French manicure at home, you need to become familiar with the terminology and the correct technology.

Nail smile line

The smile line is the border between the flesh and white color of the nail. The larger the “smile”, the higher the corners of the white part of the French manicure are raised - the so-called mustache. Their height is determined by the two top points. The height of the white part of the jacket is determined by the lowest point in the center.

Every person has their own nail smile line. This is the line after which the free edge of the nail grows, and up to the line itself it is attached to the nail bed. To make it clearer, we note that we can trim our nails “to zero” along our natural smile line.

To make a French look not along the natural line of the smile, but otherwise, for example, below, you must first cover it with flesh-colored varnish - “camouflage”. Then this bodily part up to the new smile line will be called nail bed extension. Basically, this term is used when doing French on artificial nails, since the nail bed with this method is lengthened with gel or acrylic.

How to do a French manicure at home

In order to do a French manicure at home, you need to remember the main requirement: the height of the white tips and antennae must be the same on all nails.

How to make an even French manicure? At home, you can use two methods:

  • using adhesive strips for French jackets,
  • manually.

The disadvantage of adhesive strips is that they often stick strongly to the nail and can ruin the nude polish. In addition, doing French with them takes much longer. But the main disadvantage of this method is that it is not very stylish and “smiling” - there is no smooth transition - just one half of the nail in white.

How to do a French manicure without stripes at home

The best way to french is to paint by hand. To do a French manicure at home without stripes, you will need white, nude and clear polishes, plus the thinnest brush with natural bristles.

French manicure sequence:

  • Get your nails in order: file them and make them all the same shape.
  • Apply nude polish twice.
  • With a thin brush, mark 3 points on all nails: the height of the white part of the French manicure, the other two should show where the antennae will reach.
  • Draw a smile. Try to draw the line slowly.
  • Pinch the side ridges of the nail and then paint the tip of the nail with white polish using a nail polish brush. Try to paint from one and the other antennae to the middle.
  • Wait a minute and cover your nails with clear polish.

If you are doing French for the first time, the process itself may seem very complicated. But everything comes with experience: after several times, mastery will appear, and you will do French only by hand, abandoning adhesive strips.

How to do a French manicure on short nails

Currently, French manicure on short nails is becoming more and more popular, because everything natural is fashionable. This manicure looks great on square and oval nails. To add some piquancy, you can safely add different designs and patterns.

Drawings and patterns will add spice to your manicure.

French on short nails is done in the same way as on long nails. But it is worth paying attention to some features:

  • The edging of the nail with white varnish should not be wide: otherwise the nails will visually become too short. Make a neat and thin line.
  • To visually lengthen the nails, decor is made on them. But just don't overdo it. Everything must be done very skillfully.
  • To quickly tidy up your nails, use a special convenient pencil or chalk for a French manicure. In addition, they are convenient for painting the nail plate from the inside; it will not take much time and effort. Remember that such products cannot be used on peeling nails.

How to do a French manicure with Shellac gel polishes

The main question in the French technique: how to carefully create a beautiful French manicure. The highest quality method is to coat your nails with Shellac gel polish, which is the first hybrid of polish and gel. It is interesting that from the gel he adopted the absence of odor, strength and durability, and from the varnish - bright shine, ease of removal and application.

Shellac gel polish is a unique development of the American corporation CND. Its advantages include the fact that it perfectly treats nails and does not cause allergies.

The cost of applying a French manicure with Shellac varnish is not cheap, but one must make allowance for the fact that it is the most modern development.

Buying Shellac gel polish online for home use will cost much less than in beauty salons.

The design of a French manicure can be supplemented with decorative elements, for example, drawings. As a rule, it is better to choose designs in white, adding a little pink. Most often, drawings are made on the thumb or ring finger.

Representatives of the fair sex have always strived to look stylish and beautiful. This applies not only to properly selected wardrobe and accessories, but also to makeup and manicure. The latter, by the way, many people prefer to do on their own. And many are faced with numerous questions. For example, about doing it yourself. There are simple instructions and practical tips that will help.

Tools and materials

Before you start creating a manicure, you need to prepare all the necessary tools and materials. You will need:

Nail preparation

Before doing a French manicure at home, it is recommended to carefully prepare your nail plates. Firstly, the result will be much better. Secondly, the manicure will last much longer.

Step 1: filing and sanding

Give your nails the desired shape using a soft file (200/220 grit). File short nails the same way (both in length and shape). Using a sanding buff, level the surfaces and sweep away any accumulated dust with a brush.

Step 2: processing the cuticle and side ridges

Use orange sticks to push back the cuticle. Immediately before applying the varnish, it is not advisable to remove it by cutting; it is more advisable to do this with a special gel that dissolves it. Or you can simply push back the cuticles for a neater manicure. The side rollers are carefully processed so that they do not interfere during the procedure.

Step 3: Degreasing

Treat the nail plates with a degreaser. For example, nail polish remover without acetone. This will greatly simplify the application of the base, and will also extend the life of the manicure in the future. After degreasing, you should not touch your nails.

Step 4: Base

Apply manicure base. A colorless varnish can play its role. French manicure at home is no different from a salon one. It is always performed using this technology (preparation, base, varnish, protective coating).

French manicure ideas

French can be classic or unusual. The first one is the one where the free edge is covered with white. An unusual jacket is considered to be any jacket other than the classic one. For example, one where the free edge is covered with black or colored varnish. It is noteworthy that French manicure on short nails looks most impressive in the classic version. Firstly, because the free edge is too small to make it a color other than white. Secondly, this way the manicure looks much neater and more stylish.

Possible designs

Without design, even a classic French jacket looks too boring and formal. How can this be fixed? For example, apply painting in the form of lace or flowers, abstractions, curls. This option is more suitable for nails of sufficient length. On short ones, the design will simply get lost and make the nail plates visually even smaller.

Stickers

Special stickers for nail art do an excellent job of decorating a manicure. For a classic French jacket, black designs are ideal, which will look bright and stylish. It is recommended to apply stickers not to all nails, but only to some. For example, on the ring and thumb. French manicure on short nails with a design in the form of well-chosen stickers (for example, vertical abstractions) visually lengthens the nails, making them more graceful and beautiful.

Sequins

Glitter comes in several forms: dry and varnished. In addition, several sizes are distinguished: small (micro-dust), medium, large. Sequins can be used in different ways as a design for a French jacket. For example, you can separate the smile line with a thin shiny strip. This will add some charm to your manicure. Or you can make a shiny French style by covering the tip completely with glitter. This manicure is suitable for holidays, special occasions and meetings. If there are strict regulations on appearance at work, then, most likely, a shiny French jacket will be inappropriate.

The design of a French manicure should be appropriate, discreet and neat. This determines how the entire composition will look like. For example, a design that is too bright and provocative can draw too much attention to the hands. And if the condition of the latter is not the best (pigment spots, irritation or damage such as scratches), then the overall impression of their owner will not be the most rosy.

Technology for performing French at home

After preparing your nails, you need to carefully consider both the design and composition. Before you do a French manicure at home, decide for yourself what it will be: classic or unusual; what design will be made, and whether it will be on the nails at all. Only then proceed to apply nail polish.

Step 1: French base

After the manicure base has dried completely, apply the main color of the French manicure. For example, beige or soft pink. Thin layer. Let it dry completely, then reapply if necessary. If the natural plates are of normal and healthy color, without spots, darkening, or yellowness, then this point can be skipped.

Step 2: Smile Line

You can draw the smile line yourself with varnish with a thin brush or use special stencils. With their help, making French hair at home will not be difficult. The stencils are glued below the smile line (the junction of the free edge and the nail bed), then the free edge is covered with white varnish if the manicure is classic. If there are no stencils, and you can’t draw an even smile line by hand, then you can use thin stationery tape. Just glue it in the same way as described above, then coat the free edge with varnish.

Step 3: Removing the Stencil

After the tips of the nails have dried, it is necessary to carefully remove the auxiliary materials. The stencil comes off with a sharp movement so as not to smear the varnish in those places where it has not yet completely hardened. The tape is removed in the same way.

Step 4: Design

If no design is intended, then this step can be skipped. If you want to stick stickers, draw something, or cover it with glitter, then after drawing the smile line and the free edge, it’s time.

Step 5: Protective Coating

Once the design is applied, the final step is to protect the manicure. Here you can use a colorless varnish or a special product that gives your nails shine, further strengthening and protecting them.

French at home is easy to do. Before doing a French manicure at home, think over the composition, prepare all the materials and tools, and free 30-45 minutes of time from work. Colored French is made according to the same principle as the classic one. French manicure with gel polish is no different from varnish, except for the drying method. The hybrid of gel and varnish hardens only in the rays of a UV lamp, and special products for gel varnishes (base and top) are used as the base and finishing layer. The application technology is the same: preparation, base, French, design, finish.

Remove old covering

To remove regular nail polish, use nail polish remover without acetone. We told you how to properly remove gel polish at home.

Place your hands in a bath of warm water

15 minutes will be enough. First add sea salt or your favorite essential oil to the bath.

Give a hand massage

As soon as you remove your fingers from the water, apply cuticle oil to your nails and massage for 10 minutes.

For this you will need a pusher.

Apply color coating

Choose a color you like. For example, light pink or beige (we used Essie Gel Couture in the shade Fairy Tailor, which does not require prior application of base). Wait until this layer is completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Make a smile line

  • Method No. 1

You can use any thick varnish. The classic option is white, but you can experiment: for example, we highlighted the free edge of the nail using blue Surrounded by Studs from the Essie Gel Couture collection, which was applied with a thin artistic brush.

  • Method No. 2

If you are doing French painting yourself for the first time, you cannot do without strips (you can make stencils yourself or buy them in a specialized store). When the color coat is completely dry, attach them to your nails so that the “smile” line remains free.

Paint the free part with white (or any other) varnish.

You don't have to wait until the coating is completely dry. The main thing is to remove the stencil as carefully as possible.

If the nail polish gets on the cuticle, remove the excess with a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover.

Apply sealer

After the previous layer has completely hardened, apply a fixative varnish. And let it dry completely.

Apply cuticle oil again

And also hand cream to provide the skin with additional hydration.

Manicure is ready!

French manicure techniques

The difference is in how you highlight the free edge of the nail. Let's look at the most popular options.

Method No. 1. Stencil

We have already talked about this method. The main thing is to fix the stencil evenly and carefully, and then remove it in the same way. In addition, take into account the expected width of the “smile” line (if the nails are short, it should be thinner than on long ones) - and depending on this, glue the stencil.

Method No. 2. Iron-on adhesives

They can be different: plain or with ornaments.

Method No. 3. Rhinestones

The line at the free edge of the nail can be lined with rhinestones or large ones. In one row or in several - depends on the space of the free edge of the nail and the size of the rhinestones.

Facilities

French manicure (French) is one of the most popular types of nail design. Its classic version is done like this: a light beige or soft pink shade of varnish is applied to the nail plates, and the very edges of the nails are highlighted with white varnish, forming the so-called “smile line.”

Contrary to its name, French manicure was developed in the United States four decades ago by American Jeff Pink, who founded the famous company ORLY, specializing in the production of products for strengthening and decorating nails.

French manicure appeared thanks to a curiosity. Jeff Pink was invited to the set of a Hollywood film as a makeup specialist. His task was to give a manicure to all the actresses who took part in the filming, which would be in harmony with the outfits of each movie heroine, since at that time the varnish necessarily had to match the color of the clothes.

Being a supporter of everything natural, Pink performed a discreet manicure, covering the nails of all the actresses with varnish in natural shades, highlighting only their tips with white. This decision suited everyone and saved the film studio’s stylists from having to spend many hours on manicures. It was named French in France during Pink's visit to this country, where he did nail design for models.

Nail design: white French (step by step)

To perform a classic French manicure you will need:

  • Varnish base.
  • White varnish or a special white pencil intended for French.
  • Translucent varnish in soft pink or flesh tone.
  • Finish coating (varnish fixer).

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. We file briefly and slightly round the nails using a high-quality nail file coated with natural abrasive.
Good manufacturers use garnet, rock crystal, marble and granite for this.

Metal files provoke peeling of nails, so it is best to avoid them.

  2. To soften the cuticle, you can make a hand bath by adding 5-6 drops of any essential oil or lime juice to the water. At this point, you can clean your nails using a special brush.
  3. After drying your hands with a napkin, apply a special cream to the base of the nails to soften the cuticle. Lightly massage your fingers so that the cream is quickly absorbed and comes into contact with the cuticle.
We polish the nails, and then push back the treated cuticle using a boxwood stick.
  4. We cover the nails with a layer of base varnish, thanks to which the surface of the nail plate will become flat and smooth. The base usually takes five to ten minutes to dry.
  5. Using a high-quality pencil for French manicure, we highlight the overgrown part of our nails, drawing lines on the inner surfaces of the nail plates. If you don’t have such a pencil, you can use white varnish.
In this case, we apply it to the tips of the nails, and it is not at all necessary to draw a traditional bracket or “smile”. You can show your imagination and draw a diagonal line, draw a square or a combination of intersecting lines. If you absolutely want to do a classic manicure, just make even stripes on the tips of the nail plates.
  6. After waiting for the white varnish to dry completely, cover the nails with a layer of translucent varnish in natural pink or flesh tones. If desired, you can apply another layer of varnish: in this case, you will get a slightly darker shade.
  7. We complete the manicure by applying a fixing varnish, which not only gives the nails a particularly well-groomed look, but also significantly speeds up the drying of the previous coating.

The advantage of a white French manicure is that nails with such a manicure look very attractive and natural. A white jacket goes well with any outfit, it is appropriate in any situation, it is decorated with a variety of designs, sparkles and stickers. A white jacket with rhinestones is ideal for a wedding or any special event.

Nail design: French white with a pattern (step by step)

To make beautiful French nails with a pattern, you need to purchase:

  • The base varnish is pale pink.
  • Thick white varnish.
  • Black varnish.
  • Manicure rhinestones.
  • Fixing varnish.

Step by step nail design:

  1. We perform a classic French manicure, giving the nails a pink color.
  2. After the base varnish and white varnish have dried, very carefully apply black varnish to the tips of the nails, using limiting stencils.
  3. After the black varnish has dried, we draw patterns with a thin brush.
  4. Take a thin brush, dip it in white varnish and apply a pattern in the form of dots and flowers on the nails.
  5. We decorate the middle of the patterns with a tiny rhinestone, attaching it with fixing varnish. If such a manicure is intended for everyday display, you can do without rhinestones or attach them not to every nail.
  6. Apply a layer of fixing varnish to the manicure.

French nails with a pattern look very attractive. You can flaunt this manicure both at a party and every day: it all depends on the brightness of the varnish used and the intensity of the applied pattern. For special occasions, you can make a larger and brighter design, and for everyday manicure, designs made with varnish in calmer tones are suitable.

Nail design: French with glitter (step by step)

Glitter nail designs are the perfect holiday nail art option. French manicure using sparkles (glitters) is called “millennium French”. It is based on the classic scheme of a regular French manicure: the nail is coated with varnish in a natural tone, and its regrown tip is highlighted with varnish either white or any other color.

The main distinguishing feature of the millennium French manicure is the unusual iridescent decor, which can be used to decorate both the very tip of the nail and the cuticle area (in this case, the French manicure is called inverted).

The smile line or a fragment of the nail itself can also be decorated with glitter. Anyone can do a French tattoo at home.

For a manicure with glitter we will need:

  • Base varnish (in this case, you can take varnish not only in natural shades, but also in radically dark colors: black or blue).
  • Glitter nail polish or completely clear nail polish and glitter.
  • White varnish (optional, for “polka dots”)
  • Stencils for drawing a smile line.
  • Varnish fixer.

Sequencing:

  1. We apply the base varnish (its color in this case depends on the chosen image).
  2. After the base has completely dried, we take out the auxiliary stencils (with the help of which you can make the perfect smile line) and attach them to each nail plate.
  3. Apply a layer of glitter varnish to the tips of the nails. If there is no such varnish, use a colorless varnish and immediately sprinkle the prepared glitter on it. Excess glitter can simply be blown off by directing a stream of air from the cuticle to the tips of the nails. If desired, you can add small “polka dots” with white varnish.
  4. To complete the manicure, fix it with a layer of fixative varnish.

The scheme for creating an inverted jacket with glitter is no different from the manicure just described. The only difference is that glitter should be applied not to the overgrown tips of the nails, but to the area around the cuticle.

Nail design: French with rhinestones (step by step)

Rhinestone nail designs are often used for wedding manicures: done by a good specialist, they help the bride create a complete and unique look. So, what do we need for this?

  • Varnish base for manicure.
  • White and pink nail polish.
  • Manicure rhinestones.
  • Finishing varnish.

Stages of creating a manicure:

  1. We perform a French manicure according to the classic scheme, leaving a basic pink background for the flower on part of the free end of the nail.
  2. We depict flowers on the surface of the marigolds. Taking a thin brush, we complement the design with graceful curls.
  3. Glue the rhinestones - the centers of the flowers - onto a drop of fixative.
  4. Apply a layer of fixing varnish to the manicure.

Nail design: French colored (step by step)

Over the forty years that have passed since the creation of French manicure, it has acquired many variations and modifications. One of them is a multi-colored jacket, which involves creating a manicure both on a colored uniform background in the center of the nail plates, and decorating only the tips of the nails with varnishes of different colors.

Necessary materials:

  • Basis for French manicure.
  • Several bottles of nail polish in different pastel shades.
  • Decorative silver varnish.
  • Rhinestones for manicure (optional).
  • Fixative varnish.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Before creating a colored French nail polish, your nails must be thoroughly washed and degreased (using a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover or alcohol).
  2. Cover the nails with a layer of base varnish.
  3. Taking a brush, dip it in light yellow varnish and draw a smile line on each nail.
  4. Alternately dipping the brush into varnish of different colors or only white, we draw stripes of randomly shaped patterns on the grown edges of the nails.
  5. We emphasize the smile line with decorative silver varnish.
  6. We fix the finished manicure with a layer of fixative varnish: this will give the nails additional shine and make the design more durable.
  7. If desired, the ring finger can be decorated with a pair of large rhinestones.

Other types of colored French

Black French can be done a little differently than white. For it you need to purchase the following materials:
  • Traditional base (base).
  • Black varnish with a glossy sheen.
  • Ten manicure strips.
  • Mattifying agent.

  1. Cover the nails with the base for the French manicure.
  2. After letting the varnish dry well, apply black varnish with a glossy sheen (in two layers) to the nails.
  3. After a quarter of an hour, glue manicure strips to the tips of the nails and apply a matting coating to the nail plates. As a result, the tips of the nails will attract attention with a beautiful glossy shine, and the nails themselves will turn out matte.
The red jacket looks very impressive and is very easy to do, you just need to purchase:
  • Transparent base.
  • Red varnish (can be any shade).
  • Top (fixing) coating.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. We perform the usual classic manicure.
  2. Apply the base coat.
  3. We paint the overgrown tips of the nails with red varnish.
  4. We cover the decorated nails with a protective layer of top coat.
Pink French is ideal for nails that are prone to flaking and have some surface defects on the nail plates. In this case, the edge of the nail is first covered with a layer of white varnish, wait for it to dry completely, and then a layer of translucent pale pink varnish is applied to the entire nail plate.

A modern French manicure does not have to have a border in the shape of a smile: the edges of the nails are designed in the form of beveled corners, in the form of a zigzag and geometric shapes.

The color scheme of the traditional jacket has also changed: today's beauties love bold experiments, during which it turned out that it is not at all necessary to make the regrown tips of the nails lighter.

A manicure in which the main part of the nail is painted with light pink varnish, and the tip attracts attention with a rich and darker varnish of raspberry or ruby colors, looks no less impressive.

Blue French manicure is often associated with winter due to its rich palette of all sorts of cool shades, which is why it is very often used as a festive New Year's manicure, helping to complete a charming fairy-tale look. The use of glitter, rhinestones and glitter varnish creates a feeling of cold and shimmering snow.

Here is one of the options for a festive winter manicure. It requires the following materials:

  • Turquoise glitter nail polish liner.
  • Dark blue metallic varnish.
  • White decorative varnish.
  • Clear varnish.
  • Basic basis.

Execution sequence:

  1. At the base of the regrown ends, draw lines that form a wedge and fill the resulting space with metallic blue.
  2. Using a silver decorator we draw three narrow leaves extending onto a blue background. We start drawing from the left corner of the nail.
  3. After letting the contours dry, fill them with turquoise varnish.
  4. We outline the leaves with white decorator, creating a contrast effect.
  5. Cover the finished manicure with a layer of transparent varnish.

Nail design: moonlight French (step by step)

Beautiful nail design, called lunar (or Hollywood) manicure, appeared back in the forties of the last century. Fashionistas of those years, when doing a manicure, did not paint over the nail hole or cover it with varnish.

Nowadays, lunar manicure is done by combining it with a classic French manicure: two semicircles are drawn, placing one on the regrown tip of the nail, and the other at its very base.

The most impressive look is the moon jacket, which is created using foil. This manicure option is called “onyx in a frame.”

Despite the apparent complexity, even beginners can cope with this design. In departments specializing in the sale of nail art products, they sell ready-made golden templates that are supposed to be glued to the base of the nail, already painted with black varnish. However, the lack of ready-made templates is not a reason to refuse to perform a lunar manicure, since you can easily do without them.

So, we want to do a moon manicure. What do we need for this?

  • Transparent base.
  • Tear-off foil.
  • Thick black varnish.
  • Nails glue.
  • Lip pencil.
  • Matte or glossy finish.

Execution sequence:

  1. After degreasing the nails, apply a transparent base to them.
  2. Tracing the cuticle around the perimeter with a thin brush, apply specialized nail glue to it and draw a “smile”
  3. Place a piece of gold tear-off foil on the glue and, pressing firmly, carefully tear off the free edge. At the very base of the nail there will be a spectacular golden semicircle.
  4. Stepping back a couple of millimeters from the cuticle, draw a straight line along the foil using a lip pencil.
  5. Using a thin brush with black varnish applied to it, we outline the outline of the sketch, and then cover the rest of the nail with it (in one or two layers).
  6. We apply a matte or glossy coating, fixing the result.

Very often, it is recommended to use ready-made stencils to make a moon jacket, but we recommend refraining from this, since due to the varnish leaking under them, the contour of the applied lines turns out to be uneven. You won't be able to fix this. In addition, due to the opacity of the stencils, you will not be able to determine how identical the semicircles you applied will turn out. As a result, you will probably not be able to make the designs on your nails the same.

Nail design: double French (step by step)

A beautiful French jacket is obtained if you make the smile line not single, but double. Making a double French is no more difficult than a regular one. Necessary materials:

  • Base coat.
  • Varnish of two contrasting (or complementary) colors.
  • Finish coating.

No auxiliary stencils are required. We will draw the lines by hand.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Cover the prepared nails with base varnish.
  2. Using a thin brush, apply a matching varnish to the smile line. After letting it dry, dip the brush in a varnish of a contrasting color and at the same time draw another “smile”.
  3. Cover the dried design with finishing varnish.

Double French, as a rule, is not decorated with any additional designs. Recently, a fashionable trend has emerged to do a double French manicure, combining classic and reverse French manicure. With this option, one smile line is drawn along the very border of the regrown tip, and the second borders the base of the nail plate.

Nail design: leopard French (step by step)

Animal prints are periodically relevant both in clothing and in manicure. This spring season is no exception. Leopard French is a rather complicated nail design. It harmonizes perfectly with clothes, jewelry and some leopard-print accessories. For a leopard print jacket you need to take:

  • Basic basis.
  • Decorative varnish in two shades of sand or soft brown.
  • Black varnish.
  • Finish coating.

It is done as follows:

  1. We do a classic European manicure and apply a base coat.
  2. We highlight the area of the future leopard print jacket using light brown decorative varnish.
  3. We arm ourselves with a thin brush and draw a smile line (beginners can use auxiliary strips for a French manicure).
  4. We imitate leopard spots on the nails using varnish, the tone of which is slightly darker than the color of our base. The spots should have different configurations and sizes. They should be placed randomly, while showing a sense of proportion.
  5. By lightly duplicating the spots with droplets of black varnish, we give our design depth and additional volume.
  6. After letting the stains dry, we coat the leopard print jacket with finishing varnish.

For a leopard print jacket, you can use varnish not only in those shades that are characteristic of the natural color of the leopard skin.
It is entirely possible to create fantasy compositions of the most unexpected colors, combining:

  • Pink, purple and black.
  • Contrasting shades of purple.
  • Turquoise, pink, yellow and black.

The design itself can be placed both in the area of overgrown tips and on the entire surface of the nail plate. To make the design especially decorative, you can duplicate the smile line with silver varnish with glitter.
